Access to your site is easy, staff was friendly. There is a small store down the street to get what you forgot. Site 131 is next to a path which we didn't realize. The site was smaller than we realized but it was paved which was good.

Quick weekend get away. Wife and I really loved the campground. We preferred the older wooded side to the newer side with paved spots. The dump station was draining slow was the only downside, but happy to have it this early in the season.

Nice spot for families. Two large bath houses, vending, ice and wood for sale on sight. Beach has very little sand which is the only downfall here. Everyone wore masks in appropriate places. Playground was nice too. Clean. Large sites and fire pits. Very nice.

Felt very family friendly and this section had awesome private shower stalls with plenty of hot water, restrooms were clean and fresh.
We stayed here to tour the university of Michigan in Ann Arbor and go to the Henry Ford.
My Wilson cell booster worked well here.

There is a new bathhouse in that loop. It's a good sized campground for walking the dogs with a couple trails. Southern sky is open in that loop if you have Dish satellite. We would definitely go back!

We needed a base camp while doing some business in the local area. This was fairly convenient and we were hoping there was better cell phone coverage than Waterloo, where we stayed the previous year. Nope. Every once in awhile we could pick up a signal and it was never 4G and phone calls would often not come through, go out, or stay connected. If you NEED internet or phone service, you do not want to stay here.
Checking in was kind of odd. We had a reservation but the office was generally closed during the week (prior to Memorial Day) and there is a phone that has a direct connection to the reservation system. It seemed like a duplication of effort. There are no posts on the sites so if you're scouting for a site that is not reserved, it could be labor intensive.
The upper campground is nicely treed and nice for hot days but there had been a lot of rain when we arrived and many of these sites were waterlogged and muddy. Lots of skeeters up at this end too.
The lower campground lacks trees but the sites are bigger and have cement pads.
As to our specific site, number 84, it was really large but unlevel, as many of the upper campground sites are. The worst was yet to come...we were invaded by carpenter ants. We keep sticky traps in all our storage bins, as a prophylactic and they did a great job of stopping hundreds of ants but we still were dealing with dozens inside, every day. Diatomaceous earth and finally, boric acid were used to knock down the invasion but it didn't end until after we left.
The brochure says that quiet hours exist all the time but apparently, some folks can't read. I would like to see park staff enforce that - too often there are folks reveling well after midnight.
OK, enough of the bad stuff. It is an overall nice park with lots of recreational activities available. The bathrooms are well-used but generally clean. Staff, both volunteer and rangers have a noticeable presence in the campground and are helpful and friendly.
Most of the sites are 30 amp, very few 50 amp sites.
Would I stay again? Only for a day or two. I come to this area to visit family and friends and not being able to communicate with them while at base camp is too much of a deterrent.

Specifically we stayed at Bruin Lake Campground. This area is super pretty, but I can see how it would be popular and busy over the summer. When we visited in October 2015, it was blessedly empty. Lots of space to run around, a lake to paddle on, and some great mountain biking nearby. Doesn't get much better!
