Staff act as if you are a burden to them during check in process and during entire stay. No sense of military unity. I had planned on staying until Tuesday and had told the female that but she only put me in till Monday. I did not check my reciept. She had only booked till Monday. Due to needing vehicle repairs I went to the front desk around 12:00pm to extend for a day and that is when I was told I was receiving a late charge of $34.00! I tried to explain that I thought I was paid till Tuesday morning but it fell on deaf ears. So I had to pay the fee for someone's mistake.. The only consistency is people driving around at 10:00 am to give you a notice for late charges at 10:01 am. Everybody wants to nickle and dime you and this place is no exception. I will never return. Worst famcamp I have ever visited.

There was all the info I needed on what to do to check in to a spot, unfortunately all they had was overflow, but that’s okay, I have solar batteries for a few days…. The overflow spot was pretty nice, though few spots had shade. I was here 4/01-4/02/23, and the temp was nice with a bit of a cross-breeze. Something I never considered in my travels was WIND. I’m a tiny, 14ft Sportsmen, and left El Paso early (because of gusts) to get here to find tomorrow noonish gusts would be 44mph. In El Paso, I was concerned, while 45mph wind gusts rocked my little trailer. Do wind gusts flip trailers over? I’m a newbie, so I don’t know. Hoping my next stop in Arizona does not have that kind of wind. But this place is nice. Bathrooms clean, had showers. Close to Air Museum.

We arrived early afternoon and were assigned a spot with full hookups. There is a very nice and very large dog area and the showers are clean with hot water.
If you consider staying here there are a few basics to be aware of:
1. You need proper military or civilian ID that gives you access to US military installations. That means you need to be retired military or retired DOD civilian or be active duty. The law did change back in 2020 or so, but it only opened up access for active and retired DOD civilians (all services and coast guard) and caretakers of retired veterans. 4 or 8 years of active duty service, while commendable, does not get you access to a military installation once you leave the service.
2. This campground does NOT take reservations and is strictly first come/first served. While not a bad idea to call just to ensure they can put you somewhere, you really don’t need to. Just ask for your name to be placed on the site upgrade list.
3. All gates are not open all the time, so as with any military base, check the names of nearby gates for times they are operational. For example I left out of the gate next to the campground this morning, but had to go back through a different gate as it was then past rush hour and my exit gate was now closed.
Very nice campground and facilities.

We generally really like the FamCamp here. The facilities are clean and the staff is friendly and easy to reach by phone. However, the office really needs to improve their process for tracking occupied vs. vacated campsites.
We spent 2 days in the overflow area waiting for a FHU spot, and were really happy when we got one. But it turns out, they sold us a spot that was in fact still occupied. We didn't find out this out until later that evening (after office hours and after dark) when the occupant returned and knocked on our door wondering why we were in his site, which he had paid to stay in for several more days. And, there was no camp host or after-hours phone number posted anywhere to resolve the situation. Luckily, he understood that we hadn't intentionally taken his spot, and he graciously parked somewhere else until the morning when he & my husband went to the office to try and resolve the double-booking.
We were really disappointed in the response of the office staff, who took a very cavalier attitude about the whole thing and blamed the computer system for the double-booking. Not only did they not apologize or take responsibility for their error, but they also wouldn't do anything to compensate the other camper who lost his paid-for FHU spot to us, AND who wound up in a spot without working electricity!
It seems like the office could easily check the reservation status of sites that appear vacant, and call the occupant if there's a question about whether the site has been vacated or not before selling the spot to someone else. And, at the very least, they could really improve their customer service when they make a booking error like that.

We came here in January to stay for a few days. The rules state that you can stay 21 days and then you may extend if there is no one in overflow, however this only applies to people who don’t sign a 3 month contract. Which can be extended with another contract when that one is up. If you visit in the winter the odds of getting a hook up site are not good. Unless you are willing to wait in overflow (no hook ups) for at least a week (make sure you put your name on the waitlist). The sites are large and gravel. Depending on where your site is you may have to walk quite a way to the “dog area” but they are nice fenced areas.

What we didn't like though were the very loud buggle calls. 0700, 1700, and 2200. It wouldn't be so bad if weren't parked right next to the speaker. The rest of the stay was great. The kids liked going to the parks close by. Halloween was a great time to be there as there were plenty of trick-or-treaters. Would stay again... at a different site, far away from the speaker.
Starlink gave us 65 down and 5 up. Verizon and AT&T were both 5 bars with our cell antenna. Verizon was 4 bars on the phone.

Overflow area is large bare ground with rock dividers designating sites. Sites have a picnic table and are large with long pull thru. Was told at check-in if need to run generator during quiet hours that is permissible if needed to stay comfortable. Temp did get down into the upper 40’s in the morning but we were okay without running generator. Plenty of sites available in overflow. No wi-fi at this time, is under repair. In past have been able to get in to full hook-up site without delay but not this visit.

noisy & basically a gravel parking lot (dry camping overflow) for $11/night. their “reservation” method is bizarre.
pros: dump station laundry water showers & toilets
cons: noisiest campground ever - walmart parking lot on the interstate was quieter

“ Very disappointed ”
noted 1/23/2022
My husband is an honorably discharged disabled veteran. We were not allowed entry to the base or the campground with his VA card or state issued drivers license which both indicated that he was a veteran with a service related disability. They said they required a Dod ID. We have stayed at many military campgrounds across the country and have never been denied access until we wanted to stay here. They did say we could get the required ID if we came the next day which was a Monday since they only issued them on certain days of the week. This was of no help since we were passing through and only needed a 1 night Sunday stay. Very disappointing.
