We pulled into Devils Tower National Monument at 1:00 pm and found the campground to be only ¼ full. As previous reviewers have noted, most people only stay one night, providing good odds of finding a campsite at this first come, first served primitive campground. We took a site at the far point of Loop A, which gave us a nice view of the tower and an unobstructed view of grasslands. For hiking, the South Side Trail leads from Loop A and crosses Prairie Dog Town to take you to the Red Beds and Tower trails. The campground host was very friendly, bathrooms were clean, and were happy to stay here for the very reasonable $12 nightly rate.

Nestled almost at the base of Devil's Tower, next to the Prairie Dog Town, and surrounded by the Belle Fourche River is this awesome campground. Sites are spacious and mostly level. Each site on the outside spur has an area about 15-20 feet from the gravel site for the fire pits and picnic tables, offering nice seclusion. The other sites have picnic tables and fire pits just a few feet away. Mosquitoes weren't an issue at all, and the view of the tower is spectacular. The campground has extremely high turnover. So if you get there before 4pm, you're pretty much guaranteed to find a spot for the night. The camphost is extremely friendly. Firewood is readily available -- they just ask for a donation. The bathrooms are cleaned twice a day every day, and trash is hauled out twice a week.
We had the pleasure of watching a few spectacular storms roll through while we were there, and we even watched a few climbers scramble down just after sunset as a massive storm rolled in.
Cell coverage was with a booster.

We weren't expecting to love it here, but we do. I love seeing Devil's Tower hovering over us when we step outside - it really is magnificent! The campground is pleasant with wide pull-through spots. Large, open grassy areas between sites that the kids had fun running around on. Only a couple of minutes drive up to the visitor center, or you can hike straight from the campground to the Red Bed Trail that circles the monument. Lots of people that only stay for a night so a lot of turnover.
Great signal with the booster.
