I expected (gravel, existing) pull offs but there aren’t any. The road has some rough spots. The circle at the end is very very rough - primitive. The views are fantastic. I did not stay as I would have to pull off the road which was posted against.

We arrived at Yellowstone a day early and needed a place to stay by the northeast entrance of the NP--I was grateful to find this listing! We passed lots of National Forest campgrounds on the way to this site that may or may not have had space, but we decided to stick with it and I'm glad we did. The one-hour drive each way was gorgeous, and the ride up to Beartooth Pass was great. Be prepared for gravel and a super bumpy road! We were in a van and made it up the road okay.
We were a little confused about where to park since we didn't see anyone at the coordinates listed here, but when we traveled further up the road spotted several other campers and parked there. We arrived in the dark and it would have been easier to pick a spot in daylight, but spots were still still nicely accessible at night.
Even though it was August we were very cold through the night and when we woke up around sunrise, so if we stayed again we'd be better prepared!
Be sure to be self contained--there is nothing around.

You get to camp at 9700' with alpine lakes and icey peaks for free! This location was easy to get to. You have plenty of room and several sites to choose from. There are hiking trails across Hwy 212 or just make your own trails across the meadows. We had nice weather until a surprise hail storm turned the ground white. Take the forestry road across 212 from Island Lake campground. Drive less than a 1/2 mile on dirt and there is your very own piece of heaven. The 1st road on the right goes to the top if you have a small rig and a 4 wheel drive. No dumps station for miles but water is just across the road at the campground. We actually had 2 bars Att 4g if you hold your head just right. We really had fun here minus the intense 30 minutes we thought out airstream and truck we being turned into Swiss cheese.
