The railroad tracks were literally right behind our camper. The sewer hose for the next campsite is right next to the “fire ring” and 10 feet from our picnic table. There is little green space and the dog park is a mud hole. The only good thing is that it is close to downtown.

Next to a railroad but noise is nothing to wake you if your AC or heater is running

Stayed at the campground for 3 days. Had a great experience with the staff and amenities. Great location for Busch Gardens. Con was the train noise while outside. Wasn’t a factor while inside the camper.

However, I use earplugs so never really noticed it. The pitches are pretty small but do what they need to. There was a hookup point for power and water, although the faucet pointed horizontally which made filling a bowl challenging. The pool is small but adequate, and the bathrooms clean. The games room was awesome. The staff in the store were very friendly and helpful. Nicely located for the attractions Williamsburg has to offer.

We found getting off on Rt. 199 to Rt 60 is the easiest way there in a big rig. Navigating the interior loop can be challenging (especially at night).
Positives:
- The staff is extremely friendly. We had a hard time backing in our first time here, but one of the owners came out and helped us get through it.
- The pool is great, plus they have a small game room with a pool table, basketball game, shuffle puck, and old video game systems for the kids to play.
- It is close to all the Williamsburg attractions as well as Brass Cannon Brewing.
- Camp store is well stocked.
- 15% discount after the first time you stay with them. (You have to call to get the discount, not book online.)
Negatives:
- Be careful navigating the internal roads near the main building. (I almost clipped the roof.)
- Backing in can be challenging. Take your time. The owner will come out and help if you are struggling.
- The price is a little steep. Plus a $99 lock in fee is crazy to me.
- Their cancelation policy is a little harsh. Be sure you are camping here before you book.
- People complain about the train noise. We usually stay on the sites on the road side, but I can see how some people might think it is too noisy. Just be aware the train is a thing...

The park is located just on the outskirts of the city and access is good. There is pavement all the way including in the park. Signage is adequate. Check in was efficient and friendly and very informative. The rules are fairly basic. The interior roads are in good condition and big rig friendly.
Our site, 28, was a back in that was just barely long enough for our Coach and Towed. Services (30/50 amp, water, sewer and cable) were to the left side. Distancing is close as is expected for an urban park. Each site has a table and a fire pit. Our site was flat but heavily sloped to the front. Overall the park was neat, tidy and well groomed
The park included wifi is fair but it slowed when the park was full. The cable worked well and had a reasonable amount of channels. We did find OTA channels as well. Satellite might be difficult for some because of the trees. We did not use the washrooms or showers but we checked and found them very clean and up to date.
This park is a great place to use as a base for visiting local attractions. There is a pool and a small playground as well. The camp store is well stocked, the laundromat is small but clean and a bit expensive.
There are no restaurants or stores within easy walking distance but just a short drive away you can find food, shopping and convenience stores. We found this park to be a very good base. We paid an average of $65.35 per night including taxes and fees and we feel we received fair value. We will be back if in the area again.

As RV newbies we read that for your first trip you should stay close to home so we traveled south to Williamsburg where it looked like the weather would be a bit warmer than where we live in Northern VA.
Husband found us spot #9 @anvilcampground which he read on the reviews was an ideal spot because of the ease of pulling up and then backing straight in.
After we checked in we went to our spot (warning there are train tracks right behind this spot) and as we had just finished unhitching the camper a fellow camper informed us that there was no water hookup where we were (even though we were told there was water when it was booked.🤷♀️)
Husband went to the office and came back with the bad news/good news report being that we had to re-hitch the camper and move to a new spot BUT this one had full hookups and we weren’t going to be charged extra!
Upon arrival to spot #46 we had a concrete pad with a picnic table, bench swing with cup holders and a fire pit! (We later found out this is the best spot in the park😉). We were losing daylight so we worked as fast as we could to get settled in for the night.
So our review of Anvil Campground was that it’s a great site with awesome customer service. They had a general store, doggie park, playgrounds and a pool. It was the perfect place for newbies like us. It’s in the heart of Williamsburg so you’re close to everything. The only down side is that you are right next to a railroad and can hear (and sometimes feel) the freight trains coming through so bring your earplugs!

Good WIFI and cable, although the cable was a bit fuzzy it may have been the cheap TVs in our rig. We weren't there to watch TV, anyway. This is a small campground with a lot of sites, so they are kind of small and tight. We opted to pay extra for a premium patio site and were not disappointed. Customer service was beyond reproach, staff was very helpful with all our needs. Granted, you will find this campground a bit noisy as there is a railroad track that runs right beside the park on one side and a road on the other side.

The first row of sites are only about 50 feet away from the tracks, we were in the second row of sites and we still vibrated when the trains pass by. The sites are small, there is no hot water in the laundry room, the WiFi doesn’t work for streaming on the tv (due to the required pop up screen for password entry) and we could do without the several speed bumps. But the staff is friendly and it’s close to a lot of activities (which is why we give it a second star). Even paying half price rate through Passport America (which they accept only Mon-Thur) it’s still overpriced. I would probably give it four stars if their nightly rate was $45 not $90 (and that’s for the “cheaper” spots).

So the next day they opened their windows and put the dogs in their bedroom so they would be more of an annoyance. Nice dog owners. They should put them in the dog daycare nearby. Campgrounds should boot people out like that if they can’t control it. They did nothing. We have a dog and we don’t let him do that. It’s very disrespectful to others and disrespectful.
