Beautiful views and the location couldn’t be any better unless we were actually INSIDE the park. Free camping so close to entrance is amazing especially after a day of driving! We were there on a Saturday night. It started to fill up after the sun went down with tent campers, but everyone was so quiet and respectful that I didn’t even realize it until the next morning.

We stayed here for 4 nights in late May 2018, while we explored Capitol Reef National Park and the surrounding area. Very easy to access this camping area and the road in is rocky, but no problem at all. There is no water or dump on site. We filled up with water and dumped at Fruita Campground in Capitol Reef before we arrived. It is about 8 miles from this area. It’s a decent spot to stop at. Most people only stayed one night and moved on so every day it would clear out in the morning and by late afternoon it would fill up again. There are kind of designated spots with fire pits, but people really seem to stop about anywhere and setup. We didn’t venture too far and was pretty close to Hwy 24, but we didn’t feel the road noise was bad at all. Even though we had campers all around us, everything was quiet and we had no issues. We were able to find a spot and back it in to a point where we did not even have to level. Most of the other spots seemed fairly level. We mostly saw small travel trailers and pop-ups, but there were a few large Class A models so just about any size rig would work for most spots. There was zero cell service near Capitol Reef, so it was a great surprise that we hit decent service right at this camping area. We were getting 3-4 bars LTE AT&T. We tried the Verizon hotspot but it complained about roaming and extra charges, so we did not use it. The town of Torrey just a few miles away had gas, a small grocery store and some restaurants. The grocery store had the basics only so make sure you are fully stocked up before you come. Overall, it was a good place to stay for a bit and we could camp here again.

The camping is scattered in the area. There is plenty of room to fit any size rig in the entrance area, gets a little tighter and unlevel as you move further in.
There are no amenities here of any kind. Water can be found at the Capitol Reef campground, where there is also a $5 dump. The town of Torrey is shut down for the season now and the only store open is a gas station and a few hotels, so stock up before coming here, or Loa, 18 miles away, is your best option.
This is a scenic area and has a nice 3 mile hike with the trailhead located right in the campground, no sign, just look for the trail.

Much better than paying $20 a night at the Capitol Reef campground. Plenty of fire pits. Not all sites are level but you can some. Right of the highway.

We ended up at this location after checking out Beas Lewis. I was a little nervous after reading all the reviews but when we arrived, there was only 1 other RV there. We found a large level and pull through spot. It was close to the road to look around but we were not bothered by it at all. We arrived on a Thursday and so I thought it was going to be packed. As it became the weekend we would get a couple more RVs, but everyone was respectful of space and generators. The best part is it's 1 mile from the Capitol Reef entrance sign and about 7 miles to the visitor center and the start of the scenic drive in Capitol Reef. The main negative was the zero data for VERIZON. We got 1x with 3 bars. Randomly at night we would get 3G 3 bars for about 5 minutes and that's it.
We are not here during peak season so that might be a part of it, but I really liked it here. If you want some privacy there is a spot that could fit something small if you keep going on the road to the left. The red rocks surround it and it's a dead end. There are also just tent spots. The road coming in is a bit rough. We have a 31' fifth wheel and we were fine, we also saw someone around 38' come in but you will need to be fine taking one of the first open spots. The bugs were pretty bad when we were there but not as bad as Moab or Valley of the Gods.
I would definitely stay here again (even with the zero Verizon data, so just not long). Free and awesome location and beautiful views.

We'd planned to dry camp at Beas Lewis Flat but when we got to Torrey we decided to go to the CRNP Visitor Center first. We did not see the turn off for the Flats on our way so we decided to ask. The NPS personnel did not know where it was nor did the rather officious young woman helping us have a good grasp of where the BLM land in this area is. She had never heard of Beas Lewis Flat so if you are looking for dispersed camping don't give up or get disheartened because there is plenty. Before I review this area I will say that we did find Beas Lewis Flat. It is the first right hand turn road after the intersection with Rte 12 if you are headed east from Torrey. The road sign says 1280 East Rd and Beas Lewis Flat in small letters so look for that if you are coming from the east. It'll be on the left in a break in the cement barrier on the left as you go up the hill and around the corner toward Torrey. The road in is well graded and packed. We drove to several sites and most were quite unlevel though very private and well spaced. The last site on the left just before the cattle guard has spectacular views and we were sure we could get our 33' class A in if we chose to. So it's a definite option and if you like to be away from everyone probably better than the overflow lot.
Now for the"overflow lot": This is not officially an overflow lot because it is BLM land and outside park boundaries. You can stay 14 days and probably longer. The turn off is on your left if headed east about 3/4 mi past MM74. (There is a pullout on the right at the bottom of the hill before it. ) If coming from the east it is on your right a few hundred feet after MM73. The entrance has a rut running across it and the forms a circle as you enter. Bear left as you enter and then right, around the circle then left again to start looking for sites. There are no official sites. Where you park depends on your size and how close you want to be to others. Most sites are in full sun with a few next to trees that provide some shade but t here is one all the way at the end of the road that goes left and then around behind a small hill. It's great for a small rig or tenters and completely private. Some people have built fire rings and it looks like you can build your own just heed the fire warning level. There are only a few level areas (your size is your biggest determinant) but we have seen everything from tents to 40' Phaetons. The road will be bumpy but a guy who has been full timing for 17 years spends a lot of time here and removes the biggest rocks and smooths out the road.
Rte 24 runs by the site but after dark there is virtually no noise. The backside is huge multicolored cliffs and to the west is a field with views of the distant hills over which the sun will set spectacularly each evening. To the east are more hills and the park where the moon will rise. Watching the full moon rise is beautiful but the downside to that is missing the stars for which this area is known. Either way night will be a treat.
A few people ran their generators briefly but with at least 10 campers each night we were here in mid-September with cool nights we heard no-one running them for long periods.(We are solar and used our propane heater to take the chill off the 3 cold mornings) Of course many people camp here only for the night so they can snag a place in the campground early in the morning. In our opinion, if you have a toilet on board is hard to figure out why you'd want to pay money to stay there. We forgot to fill our fresh water tank first so simply filled fresh water bladders at the Fruita CG. We had enough for a few showers but if you fill before arriving you would not need to get more.
The other thing this site has that the park CG does not, is cell reception. 4 bars of ATT but only 2-3 variable with Verizon. Boosted may be better and Verizon worked better in some areas than others. There is NO reception throughout the park including the Visitor Center, but we had a constant strong connection with ATT.
While there are numerous excellent hikes in the park there are a few trails here as well. One goes up the cliff then along the edge to the west and a small petrified forest and there is a nice short hike along or in a small wash that after a rainfall ends in a small waterfall. We were not lucky enough to see that but did see where the water flows. There are a few small hillocks that give you a nice view as well.
It goes without saying that pets are allowed though we kept to the roads when walking them as there are small cacti scattered about in the open areas.
Although there can be quite a few people here we found people to be friendly and helpful but anyone who wanted total privacy certainly got it. One night we had a camper come in late and park perpendicularly in front of us so the next day we moved the car to that spot to prevent a recurrence.
In short, other than having to drive slowly and carefully as you enter and maybe having to search for a level spot, this site is wonderful! Within a mile to the park entrance and 15 min from the Fruita CG and water, 10 minutes from Torrey and a half hour from Loa where there is an excellent and well stocked Royal Food Town, beautiful scenery, it's a great place for visit CRNP for as long as you wish.

Also, the road in is rocky, but if you stay to the right and take it slow any size rig should make it in. We would have no problem with our 25' Airstream.
The big negative is how busy it is. We've driven past three times this week and have seen 10-12 rigs each time. The area is not very big, so expect o have neighbors!
