It was ok for us though because it allowed us to check out for awhile. We would definitely stay here again.

We really enjoyed our stay here. They were maybe three or four other campers while we stayed. There were snakes in the water just FYI. Two pit toilets on either side of the lake. Easy to access and a beautiful spot to camp.

"No alcohol" but thats all thats scatted throughout the grounds. Definitely bring outdoor activities to keep the mood lifted. It was raining the entire stay so finding a tent spot was tricky. & Got my sedan stuck once. Was able to push it out. If you must stay here like I did. Good luck!

We would definitely stay here again if we needed a place to stay. The lake looks nice and the area is well taken care of.

We rolled in around 10:30pm on a Friday night to find a secluded campground with a few campers scattered around this small lake. The lake is stocked with several types of fish as well. There were plenty of spots with great privacy to choose from. There are vault toilets, still maintained in November, scattered around the lake and sites were plentiful, all with fire rings and picnic tables. There were no hook ups for water, electricity or sewage. There were no dumpsters or trash receptacles. Still, we were pleased to find a clean, well maintained campground.
Things to consider: Unfortunately we arrived while a weather front was moving in. Wind gusts were in excess of 40mph. There were white-caps in the lake and few, if any, sites offered much shelter from the wind. Therefore fires, cooking or simply sitting outside was not a viable option. The picnic tables were all made of wood and each had a grill stand and hanger attached. There were a few covered picnic areas as well.

A sheriff rode through in the morning before we packed up and was a nice guy. Made me feel like the place was patroled and safe. Nice Fire rings and picnic tables at most sites. The lake is windy in spots. It was 40 degrees when we stayed so we ventured around the lake and were able to find a nice spot shielded from the wind.

Great spot for a quick overnight. Found a site on a Saturday rolling in around 8:30. Only negative was some trash on the ground. If you have time eat at Elephant Bistro and Bar in Hoxie.

A steady breeze. That is just right for summer and which also contributes to very few bugs. Plenty of bunnies around.
The lake seems like it would be more crowded compared to other similar free camping sites near water, but it was only at about 10% capacity.
I got 1-2 bars cell service with 2-3 mbps download speed.
Other reviews mentioned mud for good reason. It was dry when I went, but there were ruts in the road here and there where someone had a bit of trouble before. Otherwise, good accessibility.
Not much civilization nearby. 10-20 mile drive to anything. Pack in pack out.

Quiet, easily accessible and level areas to boondock. The area was clean and fire rings were on each space. We would certainly stop here again!
