The deer came right through our camp every day. Then when we went fishing at Lower Stillwater we saw a beaver and a desert cottontail rabbit! We caught about 10 trout (a variety of both brook and rainbow. We drive about 4 hours to get here, but it is truly one of our favorites. Bonus points because there’s a dump station on site.

This campground is amazing. It’s quaint and clean. It’s got quaking aspens, yellow pines, blue spruce, & cottonwoods. We saw a little garter snake by the river and we caught two little trout just right by the bridge. The flush toilets were nice, too, I just wish there were more of them. There were lots of water spigots everywhere. The paved river trail was beautiful too. Just a few feet in and it feels like a fairy tale...moss covered rocks and trees so thickly packed it was dim even at noon.

This place is BEAUTIFUL! After driving through the desert with sage and cedars, it starts to fill in with Aspen and Yellow Pines also known as Ponderosa Pine. Just Stunningly beautiful. Site 4 is a group site and we had no problem putting 4 RV's and two extra cars in the parking area. There were several LARGE tent sites available in the site as well. Plenty of table space available too. Only complaint, the permanently fixed tables were situated too close to the fire ring making it harder for our group to get chairs in around the fire.
Not far from the site is a walking bridge that crossed Rock Creek. It's COLD water but people will play in it. Not too deep, we were there in early July. I'm sure it varies by time of year. Don't be surprised by afternoon showers...this happens a lot here, but then it's over and back to sun usually.
This campground has a dump station as well as potable water available. This makes it nice for our 3 hour drive. We come up empty and fill up before heading to our site. Then dump before leaving. There are flush toilets available, but they are a bit of a walk away from this site.
Three miles more up the canyon is Upper Stillwater Reservoir, a very interesting place. No motorized boats are allowed, and no one is allowed if the water level is above a certain point. There is a boat ramp, but you have to carry whatever you are launching.
There is absolutely NO cell service here, but that's part of it's beauty. We will definitely be back!
