Great stop on our way back to Florida. Many spaces clean and quiet. To top it off, it’s free for a max of 3 days. I called for permit but recording just said max 3 day stay.

The lady on the phone was super nice, took info on my RV and car including license plate, and said I was more than welcome, show up any time. I arrived at dusk and set up behind the bleachers. There is a open bathroom that’s decent. There are a lot of visitors! On foot, skateboards, and cars. A lot visit the bathroom, looks to be run down vehicles or possibly people that live out of their cars. No issues though, everyone kept their distance. Lots of grassy space if you have dogs!

We parked in the back of large parking lot off E. Park Ave. Signs for park are small, low-to ground, wood signs. You can enter from S. Park or E. La Blanc.
Dannay’s Donuts has great kolaches, apple fritters right around the corner, coffee and other breakfast items.

For a quick safe overnight boondocking spot, this is a good stop off point. We were heading down to the Bolivar Peninsula to take the ferry over to Galveston TX and this park is right on the way. Had we been willing to brave the Houston traffic, this still would have been a great spot as it is just a few miles from I-10. We chose to park in the far corner of the large asphalt parking lot along the gravel road as we are totally self-contained and didn't want the trees to shade the solar or the satellite dish. Opps, forgot to check the cell coverage, but we had decent cell coverage on T-Mobil and good data on both Verizon as well as At&t.

I called the number listed and the woman at the county office was very friendly and took my name so the sheriff would know I'd be camping. It looks like there are a couple of options for places to camp, one with more trees and grass near the playground but closer to the road and a large asphalt area near the stables with a walking path behind it. I chose the asphalt area to be further from the road. There was a nice couple in a class B+ camped there when I arrived. I chose to line myself up against the stables, as it was a bit more level over there. Fun to watch people ride their horses out my window. Lots of good amenities within a 5 min walk including a supermarket, liquor store and a few restaurants. The only issue was that, on the Saturday night I stayed, there were a lot of locals cruising the nearby streets and bumping loud bass until around midnight or so. A couple times locals drove into the area we were camped in and hung out for a while with music bumping, which was a little unpleasant. That said, it felt safe and the county is quite nice for letting travelers rest here for free. I'd return if I needed a stop in this area but wouldn't go out of my way to come here.

Still, this was a very nice spacious campground at no cost. Great spot to spend the night.
