We used this COE campground as an overnight and rest day on a cross country trip. It was easy enough to find off the highway. Our site was easy to back into and had a view of the lake. We used this COE campground as an overnight and rest day on a cross country trip. It was easy enough to find off the highway. Our site was easy to back into and had a view of the lake. Electric worked great and was much needed for A/C in August as it was quite hit and humid. Enjoyed watching birds and a groundhog by our site. Clean and well-kept campground. Would definitely stay again.

Great Army Corps of Engineers Campground; well maintained, and quiet. Easy access, well-spaced, level, paved, electric only sites; each w/ a picnic table and fire ring. Large two-sided dump & fill station just outside park entrance w/ plenty of room for even the largest rigs. The ACOE campgrounds are hidden gems, that are often disco... more
Great Army Corps of Engineers Campground; well maintained, and quiet. Easy access, well-spaced, level, paved, electric only sites; each w/ a picnic table and fire ring. Large two-sided dump & fill station just outside park entrance w/ plenty of room for even the largest rigs. The ACOE campgrounds are hidden gems, that are often discounted to $7.50-$15 per night when using National Park Senior or Access Passes. We paid $10/night for a great 30A electric site overlooking the Coralville Dam.

Great place to stay when visiting Iowa City. U of Iowa is 15 minutes away. Our site had a fantastic view of the lake. It was up high with no access to the lake without walking a distance to the boat ramp. Only other minus besides lake access is that it’s VERY hard to find your campsite at night. Great place to stay when visiting Iowa City. U of Iowa is 15 minutes away. Our site had a fantastic view of the lake. It was up high with no access to the lake without walking a distance to the boat ramp.
Only other minus besides lake access is that it’s VERY hard to find your campsite at night. Small access road to the loops had no markings or reflective signs…easy to find in daylight, tough at night.

LuLu and I spent 10 days at this campground while visiting family in Iowa City. It hosted mostly local campers but it’s conveniently located a couple of miles off I80. It was clean, quiet, close to hiking trails, and close to town for essentials or dinning out. Electric only but a convenient dump and water station as you enter the park. It also has a boat launch, play equipment for kids, and fire rings.

Overlook is one of several campgrounds in the Coralville Lake area. Check in for all campgrounds is at West Overlook along with the dump station and potable water fill station. Wonderful weekend with the dogs. Enjoyed our shady spot up the hill and walked down to the beach to enjoy the water.
Us Cellular service was great. TMobile not so much.

I didn't spend much time in the campground I know people in Iowa City so I spent my evenings there. When I was there during the day it was quiet and clean. I had a racoon steal my tortillas but that was my fault for not securing my food well enough Up on the hill where I was there are plenty of big trees to give you shade during the d... more
I didn't spend much time in the campground I know people in Iowa City so I spent my evenings there. When I was there during the day it was quiet and clean. I had a racoon steal my tortillas but that was my fault for not securing my food well enough Up on the hill where I was there are plenty of big trees to give you shade during the day. It looked a little more exposed nearer to the reservoir. Once you leave the campground there and many bike trails with signs showing where they are and how long.
The speed bumps going into and out of the campground are pretty severe, I don't have much clearance so my hitch hit both entering and leaving.
The host at the front gate was friendly and pointed me directly to my spot, then gave me a window hanger for the beach parking area.

Lovely campground with large canopy of trees. Wonderful camp hosts. Quiet, lots of birds happily chirping. Sites are gravel and look fairly level. We were so pleased to find a spot after our fiasco at the nearby Linder Point campground.

West Overlook is part of the Coralville Recreation Area which has many campgrounds. We chose this one to be able to look out at the look from our campsite. Site 61 was a back in level cement pad with 30amp electric only. Connectivity: 30+ OTA TV channels (many were duplicated), AT&T cell signal = 3 bars (no internet or cable). At the d... more
West Overlook is part of the Coralville Recreation Area which has many campgrounds. We chose this one to be able to look out at the look from our campsite. Site 61 was a back in level cement pad with 30amp electric only. Connectivity: 30+ OTA TV channels (many were duplicated), AT&T cell signal = 3 bars (no internet or cable). At the dump station, recycling options were available. North Liberty is the closest city with many options for food, groceries and gas. Be sure you check out the fossils at the south end of the dam. Very interesting! Also, if you have a Senior National Parks Pass, it is half price, thus the $10 rate :)
