We were so surprised at how lovely the town of Ennis is and how lovely this campground is. Much of the park was closed for repairs after the bad Texas winter storm but the first section of RV sites is open. These are all pull throughs with views overlooking the lake. We have a pass that gives us half off camping at federal sites and this site would be normally $18 without that but it would be worth that as well.
Super friendly gate attendant, so kind and helpful. Pretty trees along the back, water views along the front of the sites, easy pull throughs to maneuver. Love this park so far. Covered picnic tables at each campsite in this section, which is wonderful. The only noise is birds, you are far from highways and big roads.
This is one we will make a staple for us. Very pleased with the park. If you have a reason to be in Ennis, this one is a great spot. We used it as a stop when we needed to be near I-45. We prefer COE parks and other natural, more forested parks to more commercial RV parks when we can so a 15 minute drive from the freeway for us is well worth it for this.
Verizon signal was 75 Mbps + in the morning, Friday night with people arriving and with more congestion was a bit slower but very usable (20-ish). Sprint/Tmobile (we have an old sprint hotspot and tmobile phone) was 25/5.5. AT&T was slower, around 3/.5 but still usable. Definitely would be a great spot to work from if you are road working with multiple carriers having good access.

First off, let me say that I was not expecting such a huge lake or a nice campground. It was intended to be a weekend place to stay while attending the Bluebonnet Festival and driving the Bluebonnet Trail, which were both very nice as well. Waxahachie Creek is a large park of several separated loops. There are huge trees, a beautiful lake and a the nearby town of Ennis, which is charming. The campsites are well spaced, heavily treed and well appointed.

“Its CLOSED!!!!”
noted 5/5/2023
We (group of 3 families) made reservations at Waxahachie Creek in Jan of ‘23 for April of ‘23 using Recreation.gov We started getting closure emails every night around 3:30 a.m. but then would get a Open email around 5:30 a.m. 2/3 families called and spoke to someone that said they were aware the the glitches with the email but all was well. For 3 mos we all got closed/open emails. When first family arrived they were met with a closed padlocked gate. After speaking to a tree trimmer who helped them make a phone call to another local campground, crisis was averted. The ranger at the 2nd campground could host all three rvs. Found out the Waxahachie Campground had been closed for 3 years. It’s in terrible disarray after purposeful flooding for flood control. Don’t make reservations here. Recreation.gov is doing a terrible disservice by allowing this campground to remain listed on their site.
