We've stayed at this park a few times, and everything was always good. Staff is friendly and helpful. Laundry area is clean and functional. Price is reasonable. Not much noise. Spaces are big enough and easy to get in and out.

Saw a prior review said burrs in their dog from walking around…we didn’t have that problem but anyways have booties because that could be anywhere. Didn’t use any of the facilities. There’s a horse rental area too which was great! Pool looked fine(small and older) and a group of kids were in it. It’s cheap and a good option for a quick overnight place but if you’re looking for updated or modern places to stay for multiple days then keep on moving past this place.

We stayed in May for 1 night on our way out in May returned mid June on our way home and it was worse. When we booked, we asked if the pool was open so we could sit there while the camper cooled down. She said yes.. it was locked but they did unlock it. The pool was filthy. The pump wasn’t running (no circulation) it was murky and slimy. I skimmed it with the 30 year old skimmer that was too small and filled with holes. We ended up opting not to get in (my husband did, that is how we found it slimy).
The bathrooms were “ok” as far as clean goes but filled with bugs. The ceiling tiles are popping up exposing the roof (maybe a nest for the bugs??) the place was infested with mosquitoes in the bathrooms and outdoors (probably from the pool and the pond). If you can push through!! GS has high ratings and we don’t know why. They are doing nothing to improve this dying park. They should not charge $40-$45 but they should PAY YOU!!

If paying cash it is $40. We stayed 1 night traveling thru in May, and we will stay again in a few days as we travel back home. It was fine for us for a night but could use a bit of work. Bathrooms were ok and needs updating. Pickings are slim from San Antonio/Austin heading west and is the best option until you get to El Paso

After you give the friendly lady at the desk your money she tells you not to use the dog park because it is full of burrs, the wi-fi is out of service, only a few cable channels work and the cafe is closed due to failed inspections. Also, the campground is dusty, dirty and full of burrs everywhere so don't stay if you have dogs, my dog picked up several five pronged burrs.

It's orderly, neat, has a huge (all dirt) dog park, and every single space is a full hook-up pull-thru. So, lots to like at a reasonable overnight fee - $35 in our case. One bonus: Sitting right under I-10, you would think the noise would be terrible. We hear almost (that's 'almost') nothing inside our RV, which was quite a surprise. The wifi was flaky, coming in and out, even near the main building - suggest you not count on it.

We stayed here one night in our class C while crossing the country. This place is a former KOA. Sites are dirt, level and well maintained. Hookups are in good condition. Neighbors could be a little close if the place is full. Some sites included a table, all had a grassy area. All sites appeared to be pull through.
The park itself is large and included many amenities. I noticed two dog runs, a playground, and a fishing pond. The playground needed some work, but there was a large grassy area next to it. Everything else looked in good condition. There were other amenities that we did not utilize. There are some renovations in progress. The propane fill station was unavailable and needed service. The park appears to be well run.
The RV park is conveniently located near the highway, but not too close. Highway noise was present, but distant and not a bother. The park was quiet and peaceful.
We only had 3 bar 5g with Verizon.
This was a very nice place to stay a night while traveling. It seems to be worth a few days is you are looking to relax. We will stay again when traveling this way.

Very EZ on&off I-10 and many truck stops at the exit. We didn’t go into town but no need since we have an RV with our own kitchen, food and wine!

This site is run down. The pool had no water, the golf was torn up, the dog park was over run by ants, the cafe was closed and the bathrooms were in bad shape. I did not shower there. They did have power sewer and water but little else. On the positive side, the check in was very efficient. The whole town of Van Horn is run down with very few places to eat. I would pass on this town and stay elsewhere. Their webpage needs to be updated. Take out all the closed items or post them as closed. I could not give them a Good Sam rating. Looks good on website, not in reality.

“Penny’s Cafe is closed. So sad to see…”
noted 2/20/2023
We have stayed at Van Horn RV Park for many years. It is our regular east and westbound stop. The standout feature has always been Penny’s cafe. We could roll in after a long day of travel and count on a good meal. Same for breakfast the next morning.
It appears they have been remodeling since November of 2022. We understand from staff that it has been difficult to get a repair person out to finish the work. Fingers crossed they are able to complete repairs and reopen the cafe soon.
