This is the very first time we camped in our new camper. We knew the developed campgrounds would be full so we picked this one near Valley of Fire State Park. We got there after dark but found several spots and basically just choose the first one.

Spots are ok. Road is a bit rough. Awesome atv trails that take you to lake mead. Close to VoF Park. Very quiet.

We couldn't get a spot inside Valley of Fire State Park so we decided to boondock on the BLM land outside the park. We knew there were plenty of spots but a lot were out in the open where everyone can see you. We wanted a bit of privacy and wanted to feel like we were out in nature not just parked in an empty desert. We decided to go searching for a better option and went down a dirt road, crossing our fingers. Lo and behold we found what we feel is a primo campsite! It's just outside the park of a dirt road. The coordinates are 36.413656 -114.616805 and there's actually 2-3 spots back there. The first one is the easiest for bigger rigs or regular cars. The other two are up steep, sandy hills that are more suitable for a Jeep or ATV. There are rock fire pits (but be careful about fire restrictions) to designate the camping areas. It's private with hills all around. You can faintly hear the road and if you need better cell reception hike up one of the hills. It's a fantastic private spot that felt remote and special. The ONLY negative we encountered was trash. We did a sweep and picked up a lot of broken glass bottles, some aluminum cans, a bunch of bullet casings, and other trash. And nearby there's an old washer or dryer that someone dumped and used for target practice. We didn't clean that up because obviously, that's just too big. Anyway, the spot is so close to Valley of Fire you can just head on into the park for hiking and day use or head back out to the freeway for more supplies. For us, this spot was absolutely perfect and we had zero troubles, but I can imagine if it rains or shortly after it's been raining that this particular spot might be terrible. DO NOT CAMP HERE IF RAIN IS IN THE FORECAST.

I stayed here one night en route to the Valley of Fire State Park. It seemed like a popular and busy place, slightly spooky after dark as a consequence. Getting there before dark, as others have mentioned, is a good idea. Beautiful sunset; as I arrived a couple was taking wedding pictures with the mountains aglow in the background.

After setting up the trailer, we realized we were right on top of a pile of poop. Most likely human poop. And guess where we found our dog? That’s right, under the trailer eating the poop! Definitely a crappy night.
Other than that, the scenery is gorgeous, minus the swarm of bees also enjoying the poo in the morning. We got out of there as soon as we could the next morning!
What we learned: scout your spot with a flashlight before pulling in and setting up!

Apple maps was a little confusing about the turnoff, but luckily, somebody turned in behind me, so I backed up a bit and followed them in. After what seemed like a mile, but was actually 1/2 mile, I found a spot with a fire pit and with a bit of patience, I was able to back in and set up by myself, getting out with my flashlight a bunch of times.
Waking up to spectacular views out my window made for an exciting morning and my first day of photographing inside Valley of Fire State Park will be a long-time memory for sure. Someone must have been looking out for me because I love my spot and won't be changing for a better one. I highly recommend Valley of Fire West for first-time boondockers, but try to make it when you can see things to make it a lot less stressful.
Good speeds with Verizon 4G/LTE, but a couple of YouTube videos buffered a lot, the rest were good.

At least ten pullout sites along a gravel road. Most pullouts are suitable for big rigs. There is very large turn around area about 1mile from the paved road. The road is rough but firmly packed gravel and not rutted. We stayed here in a 36ft motorhome.

We used this as a go between to Vegas in our RTT setup, showed up late at night and went to bed. Woke up to an incredible view, wish I had stayed longer.

Perfect place for our first boondocking experience! We were headed to Zion and wanted a place outside Vegas to stay one night. This spot was perfect. There were about 7 other families there when we arrived but they it was quiet and peaceful. Had we had more time going to Valley of Fire SP would have been a great activity. Next time!
