The ride out to Unicorn Ridge on broken asphalt of Sheep Creek Road was loaded with mule dear as we gained about 2000 feet in elevation from our turn off at highway 6. There was still pockets of snow (mid-April) and the road that continues to strawberry reservoir was blocked by a forest service gate. We arrived at the site which featured 6 medium sized spots for RVs. The forest service sign didn’t have any information other than a $20,000 reward for information on anyone shooting cattle. The site was a mix of gravel and mud. The spots were a little narrow when you park factoring for your slide, leaving about 4 feet of “patio” space between the gravel parking spot and the landscaping boulders. Each spot included a table, raised concrete fire pit, and a standard campsite grill. There was a clean, forest service out house. There was no shade, had we needed it, but my dogs enjoyed running amongst the scrub. This area is pretty exposed, and although there is a small peak to the north, I wouldn’t be excited being up there in a thunderstorm. There was a little traffic on the road despite the closure to through traffic. The view was nice but nothing to write home about, but I am a spoiled Utahn now... We found one trail that led down to sheep creek, a little less than 2 miles down a long draw. Other than enjoying the dogs and the conversation, there was nothing especially great about this spot. We did get 1-2 bars of AT&T and Verizon (LTE) and we streamed Netflix off a jet pack. I could see it being better in the hot summer months, but then again there is no shade. So, all in all, just “OK.”
Luke Nomad would stay here again
