There are 14 primitive campsites (Hunter's Camps) in Tuskegee National Forest. Absolutely primitive, no water or electricity. This was a good test of our solar system; 800 watts (400 rooftop and 400 solar suitcase) watts collection and 400 amps of LiFePO. There is no dump available either; there are a pair of Dumps at the I-85 rest stop just outside of the Forest.
These are first come first serve campsites. After selecting your site and setting up you will need to go to the Ranger's Station to register and they will issue you a Fire Permit.
Campsite #5 is directly across from Campsite #11 on Forest Service (FS) road FS 913, Further up this road is Campsite #4. When approaching on FS 913 from the east there are huge washout ditches on both sides of the road (Trench Warfare) just prior to the campsites which make things rather difficult and dangerous for campers larger than 20 - 25 feet as the turn radius is really tight. I had to make the turn as wide as I could and drive partially up the moderately hillside to avoid the ditches, but I was able to get in without too many difficulties. A TT longer than 25 feet would definitely be pretty hard to maneuver without putting a wheel into the ditch or scrapping their backside on the road (The turn into #11 is worse as there is a very steep rise of 6 feet immediately after entering the site's path and long trailers will not make it).
Site #5 is a good size, in fact it could hold at least two, possibly three 20-foot trailers and their TVs. There was no firepit / fire ring at this site. We actually started building a small stone fire ring while we were there. Apparently, many hunters do not care about the environment or taking care of the National Forest as there is quite a bit of trash throughout the forest. We picked up 4 kitchen trash bags full of mostly beer bottles and cans.
Therea were two trailers and trucks at site #11 and we went over to say hello. I noted that site #11 could easily handle 4 or 5 trailers of 20 feet or smaller. Forget longer, you won't make it up the hill. Huge stone fire ring.
Site 5 is at the top of the flat mountain top, has 2 bars of Google-Fi 5G cell service. We were able to stream Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon without issues. There was cell coverage, but we don't have Verizon, AT&T, or T-Mobile, so I don't know how many bars for them.
Not all of the campsites are suitable for RV / Trailers.
Site #1 has a 3-foot-high speed bump/hump, you cannot drive over it. Tenting only.
Site #4 is the only one suitable for larger trailers and RV's.
Site #12 has room for multiple trailers as well but be cautious if it has been raining as the middle of the drive path into the site is a squishy bog about the same size as a crew cab truck with extended bed and you will sink.

I loved it here, GPS will tell you to park car then walk but you can drive your vehicle. The road isn’t paved so watch out for holes once you are there , you will see many places to camp however the campsite we camped at was marvelous! You haVe so much space for a RV , a camper, tent , we slept in our van that we created into a camper. I had the best night sleep of my life here. Super isolated, very far from the nearest stores or gas station however you do have phone signal. I use cricket. My finance used family mobile and my in law who were with us use metro .
JayD would stay here again
