There is almost no cell service at this rest stop for AT&T. I had to walk to the end, almost back to the highway to get a small amount of signal to make a call. There is almost no cell service at this rest stop for AT&T. I had to walk to the end, almost back to the highway to get a small amount of signal to make a call. It is literally right off the highway with nothing to block out the sounds of cars and the occasional semi. Overall it wasn't very busy, but it was also a Monday night so I would not expect it to be. There are 15 regular parking spots, (+2 accessible spots, and a dedicated CHP spot) that fit large pickups (we have a dually long bed w/ a crew cab and a 10.6 bigfoot. We hung out a little but there was plenty of room for through traffic). It also has 6 RV/Semi/Trailer spots; these spots are separated by a strip of sidewalk. There is a convenient potable water station in the middle of this divider. The information board at the rest stop claims it has a dump station, but it is actually the Northbound Trinidad Rest Stop that has one. overall, it's not bad. There were a few cars parked in the trailer spots, so maybe the other side was full when they pulled in? we did not use the facilities this time, but we stayed here a year ago and they were very clean.

I stayed here overnight when passing through. No issues and I felt safe. I had a couple bars of Verizon.

Best night of sleep all week! ☺️ We snagged the very last RV spot at 9pm on a Sunday, and the cars going by all night on the fwy sounded like ocean waves. Wonderful!
There’s also a northbound rest area 2 miles north that we didn’t check but maybe you can park overnight there as well? 🤷🏻♀️

The rest area was definitely busy! I pulled in around 10pm (on a Friday night) and took the second to last spot for auto parking. But, it was quiet and the perfect location to access the Redwoods. Bathrooms were clean.

I tried this campsite the night before, and there was a man in a car that just kept watching me walk around. The next day I try to stay here again, but he was there again. Still watching me.

Overall Rating
Southbound Rest Area is open, 5 trucks and RVs were currently using the stop. The area in back is under construction. Looks like it’ll be this way for awhile but it’s still accessible. Northbound is closed with orange cones and fencing at the entrance.

Overall Rating
8 hour max stay which is a little difficult but when you’re in a pinch, it works! Clean restrooms, garbage cans, water and beautiful walking path with picnic tables. About 7 parking spots that are wide and fairly level. I don’t think anything longer than 50’ combined could fit. Overall, traffic noise is expected but nice, clean rest area.

Only about 5 or 6 places for RVs / semis to park so it would be good to have a back-up plan just in case (or arrive early in the evening). Rest area has typical traffic noise, people coming and going, and the odd generator running. We needed to pull out the levelers as the parking lot isn't really flat. We were able to come in late and find a space even on 4th of July weekend. Of course being next to a highway the sound is as you would expect. CalTrans keeps the area clean and safe.
