Very surprised to have 4 bars of Tmobile and 3ish with AT & T! Bear boxes on several sites. Locals tell us this is VERY HEAVY bear country, so be aware!

Worth the seemingly endless drive to arrive at this campsite. Only 7 sites and just 2 by the river. Drive through all the way to the day camp area. There you will find semi clean vault toilets and you can park right next to the river. Loved it! ❤️

A couple of spots left, but not next to the river. Drive to the end to see great rocky canyon formations. Cave trail requires permit. Theres is a trail along the river at the end parking, as well. Mosquitos even on Oct 1 2023. Keep your windows closed to deter mosquitos and bears.

Fortunate to get this spot right on the river. Little sandy beach, rapids, cold, clear water.
Great moderate hike from trailhead. Wonderful scenery. We saw a black bear across the river, and a Mountain Lion was sighted by a fisherman early in the Morning. Bear spray a good idea.

We stayed for five nights right next to the river, and it was beautiful! We pulled in on a Sunday afternoon, and two spots were still available. We stayed at the very first road on the left once you get into the area. Once you make the left (small road on an incline a bit), there are two spots directly on the river, one to the left and one to the right. We stayed to the right, and there's a little beach access there to enjoy!
If you don't make the left and follow the main road down a little further, there is a large spot on the right-hand side for a big rig (it was just taken when we were there).
If you have a big rig, just know that there's not a good spot to turn around if the big spot is taken. We have a 33-foot travel trailer towed by a short bus (57 ft towing), and getting into our site was tricky - the frame of the trailer scraped the ground a bit but no damage. However, we loved our spot once we got into it.
The park ranger trolls daily so be sure you are only staying up to 5 nights. There is a campground nearby (foothills inn) that we used for potable water ($5) & dump station ($5). CASH ONLY. Disposing of trash was tricky -get creative.
The corner store has essentials as far as grocery/snacks etc. If you need to full on grocery shop, Sheridan is about a 30 minute drive.

There are just 7 or so spots here and I was able to get the last one at around 4:00 on a Monday. Nice and level right near the (very clean) pit toilets. Across the road from the creek though I could hear it throughout the night. Fairly busy road during the evening then quieted down by dark.

It was Memorial Day weekend and I really didn't expect to find much but I went for it anyhow. I unloaded the ATV to scout for a spot for me, the ATV, and my 32' motorhome. There're lots of riverside tentable sites but they don't go down the trail too far. There're a few sites, and I do mean a few, that will accommodate a larger rig on the right side of the road. My rig is a 32' Class A with an 8' trailer. The left side of the road is pretty much for tents and car campers. There was one open on the left side I could have gotten into but it would have been discourteous to the tenters that were very close by.
No such luck in getting a "normal" spot except for an area next to the restrooms, one of questionable legality. I figured it would be good for a night because most of the campers would be headed out around noonish.
The next day most of the campers headed out and I secured a nice fat spot that required no leveling. I can hear the river and have gorgeous views out all windows. A big plus is it's a bit early for biting flies and mosquitos. One of the locals I was chatting with told me there was snow here until this week. The river is a bit fast and tinted with tannins, so no fishing yet.
A bit about the accessibility, if you have a really big motorhome( something like a 40' diesel) or long fifth wheel you should skip this place unless you're really good at backing it up down a narrow road. And forget Amsden Meadows, put it completely out of your mind. I saw an Audi all-wheel drive in there and thought he was one brave soul( it was the only vehicle I saw there but what views, absolutely breathtaking.) If you haul an ATV and want to haul in a tent then the views will be a very handsome reward. As a matter of fact, that might be a good idea moving forward.

These larger sites are right after the smaller sites. We have Starlink and worked seamlessly with both of us on VPN. Beautiful canyon walk that circles back to your campsite (dead end and turn around). The roads are narrow but definitely doable. It was peaceful and quiet. A beautiful and lovely stay. Highly recommend. Definitely a unique stay. One of my favs!!

We needed a place to stop near 90 and couldn’t have lucked out more. Easy road, a lot newly paved, shade and water. The dogs loved it. We camped in a truck-camper, F250 diesel.
