It wasn’t an RV park. It used to be a Rio Tinto mining company town. When Congress changed the laws and booted mines out of national parks, they closed the mine and removed the housing, etc. it reverted back to BLM and all that is left are the ‘pads’ or trailer foundations. Still a favorite getaway of mine!

I have heard a few explanations of the origin of The Pads and I think Leegrisham’s is likely the accurate one. It appears it could have been an RV park develop but the layout is not correct for that. It would be correct for a mobile home park. Another thing that causes me to now believe the above is the nearby small town of Death Valley Junction may have thrived with the Rio Tinto miners coming there for supplies, services and the entertainment at the Opera house. Death Valley Junction is for all practical purposes now a ghost town. Not sure if the two are related but perhaps Lee would know the timeline

It used to be an RV park, apparently. Now, there is nothing except a dirt road and about 100 concrete pads. Nothing else. Many people camp there, we have. It’s not far from the entrance to Death Valley NP.
