Question about The Bank Campground

gDan asked on 4/12/2024

The BLM website says, "The dirt road leading to the campground is very rough and not recommended for large RVs and travel trailers." I have a 22' high clearance trailer, any issues with the road other than go slow?

Dan They improved the road so slowly and you will be fine. Limited space for trailers at Bank and improved sites with ample space at Sand Gulch Campground which you pass if climbing at Bank. Hope this helps.

It’s a bit rough but just fine going slow.

It is very rough. I pulled my 26ft outdoors RV with an F-150 in 4L most of the way. The weight with a week’s worth of fresh water was likely around 8000 lbs. Trailer clearance was fine and the truck was fine, but I can’t say that it’s a pleasant drive. It’s far worse than just a little washboarded like another commenter said. It’s washed out from poor water drainage, worn from heavy use, and probably hasn’t received quite enough maintenance. You’ll likely get up there fine, just don’t expect to enjoy the journey too much :)

It's quite rocky but does not require high clearance or 4WD, I got out there in an unmodified Ford Focus. However, the road is steep and has tight switchbacks with a drop on one side. I imagine that would be difficult to navigate with any trailer. Sand Gulch is nearby and might be a better option, as it is closer to the main road. I camped in The Bank but drove through Sand Gulch and I could have been happy there as well.

You will be fine, the road is just a little washboarded at the top. Just watch out for careless driver flying down it.

You should be fine. It's a little rough, but take it slow. We took a 27' Airstream up there (without high clearance), and it was ok.
