Researched other campgrounds, this kept coming back into my thoughts. Well worth the drive north of Pagosa, well maintained road and surprised it wasn't busier. Took time to myself to just relax and take in the view I had of the surroundings, perfect weather.

We wrapped up a month long trip with three nights of peaceful boondocking. We towed our 15ft trailer out to teal on the 22 mile gravel road. There were only a couple of cattle grates that created some sizeable bumps to get over, but otherwise the road was very well maintained.
Campground is clean and well marked. Pit toilets are also well maintained. No water, electricity or sewage at the site, but there is water available in the campgrounds. Fishing was a miss for us, but the the hubs loved being on the reservoir.
Ice Cave Ridge - was less than expected, but still pretty cool to see. The Pagosa Springs Hiking Trail map says "short walk" but it was cloer to a .5 mile uphill, not bad though.
Piedra Falls Trail - was as the Hiking trail Map states, and very worth it.
There is a spot on Road 639 where we were able to pick up limited cell reception to get a couple of "we're good" messages out to our family without having to drive into town.

First come first serve. Stayed weekday, no problem. This time of year a little cold and windy. Ok if hiking or fishing. Probably a little crowded during the summer.
No cell service, but ok for us. Will return, all campgrounds is the general area are great.

Forget about cell phones, we have both Verizon and AT&T in our family specifically to provide better coverage in the mountains, neither work. You can however drive a few miles up the road to the closes cattle guard and for some reason you get LTE from both providers.
This is a boondocks site, so if you're needing power don't forget your generator, battery upgrades, or whatever setup you have to get you AC when no hookup are available. Not even the host sites have power so be prepared if watching a little TV to keep your toddler entertained in the morning is a daily routine like us. :)
You can get any size camper out there but it takes a while as most of it is on a long dirt road that's literally about 15-20 miles long. Doesn't sound like much but the dirt roads are rough enough that it can take an hour or to to travel just a few miles in some areas. Once you're at Teal there's a few campsites that fit large campers, we have a 38 ft camper and got it in site 9. (picture included).
All in all, this is literally the best campsite I've ever stayed at from a scenic perspective. It allows you to take any size camper so you can feel like you're at home but still get a great outdoors camping experience.

The road from Pagosa Springs to the campground is 23 miles long and mostly gravel, which they were grading on our way in. The campground is small with about 14 sites, which were spread out. The views from our site was outstanding. There are pit toilets which were clean. The host was nice.
We hiked the Williams Creek Trail, which was also nice, but is also heavily used by horses as well.
It rained quite a bit while we were there so the roads were pretty much all mud on the way out. It took $20 at the spray and wash in Pagosa Springs to get the mud off our truck and camper, just so it was usable the rest of the week.

This is a decent National Forest campground in a beautiful spot. Not all sites will work for all sizes of trailers; but there are at least a few for long rigs. Many of the spurs are shaded from the east and south, which can make it tough on solar. Site 11 worked OK - we were able to recharge the batteries in about 3-4 hours in late September. It took some doing to get level.
Hosts there are very zealous -- magazines in the outhouses :)
We made the mistake of being there during hunting season and so were awakened by a fusillade of gunshots at first light (6AM), and had pickups towing horse trailers running up and down the access road all day, to a popular hunting access point at the end of the road. If I go back it will be outside of hunting season.
Access is via about 23 miles of dirt road which is well graded, but turns treacherous in heavy rain. We didn't get stuck coming out in a downpour, but did start to slide around one curve. We had about 1/2 inch of mud on front of trailer after coming out.
No cell service whatsoever.
Note that access is off US Hwy 160 to Piedra Road, which turns into Forest Service road 631.
