So much space to camp, there were TONS of RVs yet the closest neighbor was a football field away. Very easy access. My only warning is watch out for rattlesnakes at night… we heard a hiss come from under the RV, my little dog ran under, and we almost lost him to a rattlesnake. Still gives me shivers thinking about it. Be snake aware and this place is a gem.

Very cool OHV area. Next to Naval Bombing range and winter home of the Blue Angels.
Followed directions from another review.
Good times.

This is an OHV area. (Off highway vehicle). Its is several miles in size. These are the correct coordinates at the entry to the area. 32.8862,-115.7546. The other ones listed are where someone camped. I arrived on a Tuesday and there were maybe a couple of dozen RV's. Closest to me 1/2 mile. On the holiday weekend there were a thousand RV's, but still had a 200 yard buffer zone. It was so busy on the holiday that an ice cream truck circled the area for 3 days, music playing. The entry is on Wheeler Rd. It is about 15 minutes from I-8. (Exit Drew Rd N., L on West Evan Hewes Hwy, R on Huff, L on Wheeler.) Wheeler Rd is paved up to the last mile. Then an adequate wide dirt road. After you enter OHV area you have miles and miles to pick your spot. Best OHV/Jeep areas are to the N behind the berm and to the NW at the dunes/hills. Large groups tend to congregate S of road, so if alone I suggest N of road if you like to be alone. I was parked at 32.8948,-115.7776. This was 2 miles inside from the entrance, 200 yds N of Wheeler.. Ground is very hard packed, so no problems. I stayed thru a 1" rainstorm without issue. There is virtually NO OA TV here which surprised me, but good Verizon, TMobile and AT+T. Streaming was no problem. This is the winter home of the Blue Angels. I was lucky enough to watch them practice several different times. Full on loops, rolls, smoke, etc . Great fun.

There's a bombing range/parachute range directly on both sides of the OHV area, literally a few signs and a small ridge separate the OHV and Bombing range to the north. Most OHVers wander onto it on the weekends. Jan. to Mar. the Blue Angels practice 3 times daily right over the range and Mon/Fri nights Ospreys would practice shooting with tracer rounds on the northern range; would sit on the trailer, eat popcorn, and watch the show.
We were the only ones here most weekdays. Weekends would bring 30+ rigs, but everyone was pretty respectful about parties/noise. Probably the greatest free entertainment you could ask for. Nobody parked within 30 yards of us in February. Not sure why there's no other reviews of this, maybe its a secret, maybe we were just there at the right time. With El Centro and Brawley minutes away, warm winter weather, and lots of entertainment, this place was great!
Update: Stayed here In Feb. again in 2021 and there's definitely more people now! Check out BLM.gov they have detailed maps of the area. The popular places to park are north of the dunes directly off Huff Rd. which is smaller but more accessible and has a better view of the jets and live bombing range; or to the south of the dunes on Wheeler Rd. which is much more expansive and has easier access to more trails.
Update 2022: They put up a fencing around the bombing range, so now everyone parks next to the fence so it's a lot more like an RV park now, people just park right on top off you. It's still o.k. and spread out on Wheeler rd. though.
