This was our very first camping experience as a couple - and our very first experience with an RV, a 26' travel trailer pulled by our Chevy truck. We stayed in space #9 which is a tight pull through with a rather precarious tree slanting into the driveway. But we did it! And even had room to put the slide out! Site 9 is great because I think it's one of the only sites along the river that has a path down to the Lewis river and there's a perfect little shore and swimming hole right there. As we walked the end of the campground that accommodates RV's we were impressed with the private distance between the sites and thought space #6 looked the most favorable on the river side, tucked back in the corner with a really easy pull through. And we really liked spaces 1 & 2 situated directly across from site 9. They are more open, not as private, but really spacious if you have dogs.
The end of the campground that accommodates only tents is on the beautiful pathway to the falls. And these sites are awesome and private, if you're a tent camper.
Now...the falls! At the end of the pathway is a bench overlooking the falls and they are utterly gorgeous. This was a peaceful place to walk to each morning and have a bit of solace. Then walk beyond the bench to get down to a rocky shore where there are several amazingly crystal clear swimming holes. The colors are magical.
Yes...no hook-ups, no wifi or cell service. And it felt great to be off the grid in this way. Enjoy it! We would definitely return!

Nice area to stage your camper and go out and explore!
Some road/vehicle noise.
Had boosted Sprint/T-Mobile for a few hours then it disappeared. Could send and receive texts. Better cell a few miles back down the road.

Small campground just inside Gifford Pinchot National Forest. Closest town, Yacolt, WA
I camped here several times in 2019. Went there in 2020 and it was closed, no camp host. It has since reopened but a lot of Forest debris scattered around. Pit toilets. Open year round

Peak season is July 15, 2020 – September 30, 2020. These are the times you can make reservations. The rest is first come first service. The best RV sites are on the river side. Roaring white water 10- 15 feet away. The place is at the end of NE Sunset Falls Road in Yacolt. It is one of the most western point of the Pinchot National Forest. Beautiful county side, white water rapids in the winter and spring, and four wheel driving/muddin' down the dirt service roads. It is nice, quiet, and clean, but with no hook ups. Just vault toilets. My favorite spot. PLUS, there is dispersed camping all over the place up the service roads. See (https://www.fs.fed.us/recreation/programs/ohv/ohv_maps.shtml) for dispersed camping/Travel Management & Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) Program maps in your area. You can also see (https://www.recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/234765) for the Sunset Camp link.
Sprint service is 3 miles down the road. So make your calls before you get there. No reason for a phone to ruin your solitude anyway!

This is a very primitive campground with no cell service and vault toilets. Some sort of wild cat entered our camp at night.
