I really wanted this place to be awesome, but it just couldn’t get there. There were some nice parts, but the cons just made the stay more uncomfortable than it should have been, especially considering the average rate was $119 per night.
- Upon arrival, the picnic bench was dirty, swarming with ants, and had what appeared to be weeks’ worth of spider webs. The staff cleaned it after I made the request.
- The trash cans are wine barrels with open tops. It looks neat, but the trash attracts animals. My relatives stayed next me and ended up picking up trash that had been rummaged through by something. Even from a “don’t feed the animals” approach, something different should be used.
- On the day I tried to use the pool, it was cold and both the pool and spa were basically overrun by teenagers from the tent sites.
- There were ants everywhere. They crawled up the tongue jack, a stabilizer jack, sewer hose, electric cable, and water hose. Some got inside the RV…they didn’t get any good, but they were just walking around. The Comet recommended by staff did not work. Many other sites had Comet on the ground, so it appears to be an issue on the property. I understand there are bugs in the places we stay, but I have never experienced an infestation like this.
- The laundry room had what appeared to be rodent feces on the floor in front of the washers/dryers.
- In the previous Campendium review, I read about the sewer odor. It is definitely here and smells bad. It comes and goes, but when it comes, you know it. It was even more potent than the campfire smell.
- AT&T service is about one bar LTE, so it is intermittent. It seems to work better at night.
- The playground was nice, just looked like it needs to be cleaned of spider webs occasionally.
- The small office and store were nice.
- I did not use the shower facilities.
- El Capitan Canyon is next door and may be used by Sun Outdoors guests. The food was awesome, grounds were nice, and pool was quiet and warm.
I looked at leaving early, but other options were limited during a weekend. Overall, I can’t stay I would not stay here again because of the location, but I would seek other options first.

According to people who had camped at Sun Outdoors before, sewer smell had been there for years.
Depending whom you talk to on the staff, you also come across some real volatile and very unfriendly.

Most sites have a view of the ocean if you orient your camping chairs a little. Great WiFi. In between Solvang and Santa Barbara for amazing day trips. Only recommendation would probably be putting lids on the trash cans as I think they attract little critters at night.

Great hiking up the Bill Wallace Trail which is adjacent, however the state beach across the street is closed due to all the storms.
Typical RV parking, their online map is true to what you see. I think number 805 is the best...
The pool is lovely, but the bathrooms need updating and a more thorough cleaning. The laundry room washers are filthy. By the way fellow campers, would you not wash your dog blankets in the washing machines? I, for one, would appreciate it!
Good wifi although they warn you it's not for anything except checking email, I was able to stream television shows.
Only occasional Verizon service. Texts can come in and out but no voice.

I wish that it was cheaper but after staying in CA for the last 3 months I know that ALL the RV places are either expensive or booked out for months. This is the first place that we have stayed in which I thought it was quite possibly worth the price. We didn't pay summer prices though.

They stay was comfortable. Our site was at the top of the park. There was a peek of ocean view. This was our dog’s first trip. There is a dog area, but I instead took walks with her in the open area. It is just north of the tent camping area. There is a dirt road that circles the area that made for easy walking. Lots of ground squirrels, so lookout for ankle breaker holes. The view of the hills and ocean are worth seeing.
The store had a decent inventory and it wasn’t too expensive. Bathrooms and showers were immaculate. The sites (ours was a back in) are a spacious size.
The office was called once with a complaint. New arrivals several sites over immediately began blasting music. The office said they have a right to play music outside of quiet time. My wife asked the staff to just go by the site and judge for themselves if it was too loud. They did so and sure enough the volume was lowered.
I highly recommend OceanMesa. It is a lovely park tucked away from the highway. We will certainly return for a stay when we go to Solvang or Santa Barbara.

This is the transition from the pad to the table that is on dirt.
One issue that is annoying is the 101 traffic that is clearly loud. The price is to high for me to come here again. We had no choice due to a meet up we had nearby and maint done in Buellton.

The bathrooms and showers were the cleanest I’ve ever seen - seemed like the guy was over there every couple hours cleaning! Store is well stocked, especially the market/deli just a short walk over to the cabin area in the canyon. That place served REALLY good food, too. Even BBQ meal kits! They had a band playing for a few hours during the afternoon on New Year’s Eve as well as a happy hour with specials on wine and beer at the deli. There was security after the store closed that ensured quiet hours were kept (they gave an extension from 10PM to 12:15AM for New Year’s Eve). The tent sites were nice with lots of plants between sites to give some privacy. Definitely the most I’ve ever paid for a tent site, but also the most I’ve ever gotten for one.

It is a shared resort with El Capitan Canyon so you can take advantage of the store/restaurant and all that next door. There is a nice paved path to take you there. We stayed for a few night over Christmas and it was fairly quiet. You do get peaks of the ocean from the upper spaces but no full views that we could find. The Verizon cell service was nonexistant on the north side of the upper sites, but had two LTE bars on the southern part past the pool. All sites have a fairly level concrete pads and a fire ring. We will definitely be back!

Nice and private with tree hedges between sites. Full hook ups with pool, trails, immaculately maintained restrooms with nice hot showers.
Wifi is free and can upgrade if you need better bandwidth.
Has a small on site store with firewood available. Accommodates RVs as well as tenters.
About 30 min from Santa Barbara.
