Stuart Recreation Area is a great base from which to explore Elkins and the western approach to the Monongahela Forest. This trip, I drove out to Glady Fork (about 25 minutes from Stuart) and found some awesome dispersed campsites that were fifth wheel friendly, somewhat rare in West Virginia. Stuart offers paved campsite pads, 30 amp electric, several water spigots, and a dump station. Shavers Fork Creek runs through the Recreation Area, but the campground is not near the creek. There is a large grassy open area along the creek that is great for playing with Fido.

Very nicely maintained camp ground. All blacktop spurs bu do to the hill terrain you may need to level, mostly front to back. Campers help give you privacy the way they angle. Very nice elevated level ten pads for tent campers. Fire rings with two different cooking grates in good condition as well as picnic tables and lantern posts with hooks. Electric at all sites. There are plenty of water bibs around so bring extra length of hose if you plan on needing to refill while staying here. Site 6 has water right by the camper but only can be used for filling, not for staying connected. There is a dump station at the entrance. Down below is a very large day use area with nice rentable picnic pavilions with fireplaces. Flush toilets in camping area with showers and also flush toilets in day use are. Awesome area to go in the river with the kids or you dogs in knee high water. Kids bring your intertubes! Plenty of parking. All paved parking and roads. There is a property somewhere near that has some dogs that do some excessive barking, told they are trained for bear hunting. They weren’t barking every day but can be annoying. You can also hear few trucks at night engine breaking down the mountains. Nose travels out here and also night time being that (I’m also a light sleeper). Have had 2 to 3 bars AT&T Cell service. Never had issues with cell phone. Only few radio stations and no TV reception.
