“Nice Setting On The Snake River ”
Reviewed 8/25/2023
12 miles of washboard road, it wasn’t as bad last year but apparently they haven’t done much grading on the gravel road, very relaxing spot, we came in on Friday at the end of August, we found a nice shady spot over looking the river through the trees. It was in the 90’s but cooled off nicely. Although the water spigot at our site was leaking and would not turn on , the camp was all in all nice and relaxing. I’m sure at peak dates it is probably much more noisy. It’s a nice spot for local camping.

“Twenty Miles In But Worth It”

We visited near the end of March 2023, prior to the official opening for the season. The twenty miles or so drive from Weiser, ID includes 13 miles of gravel road. There was some washboarding but it is a wide, maintained road.
The campground is located next to the Snake River. The camp area is laid out on the edge of a hillside, with tiered rows of sites that end near what would be the river’s edge. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring located on a concrete pad. Equipment/vehicle parking is on a widened sections of the campground drives; easy in and out. There are many well maintained vault toilets dispersed throughout the campground and water faucets as well ( Water was not yet turned on when we visited). There are camp hosts during the main use season. A fish cleaning station, trash dumpsters and RV dump station are in the campground. Two boat launches are on site, though unusable for us because of low water. There is no electricity provided at the sites. The entire campground was well cared for.
The views of the river are good, with towering mountains all around. There will be train noises since a trestle crossing of the river is across from the campground. We heard coyotes howling at night and saw deer crossing a mountain ridge. We had to stop for cows crossing the road and ‘ evidence’ of their presence is seen in the campground. We enjoyed seeing a small waterfall nearby and walked a bit of the single lane , high clearance vehicle only road that continues beyond the campground. The road leading to the campground and surrounding hills shows the area is popular for off road driving.
This campground is nearly directly across from the Spring Recreation Site on the Oregon side of the river and is near the Hell’s Canyon National Recreation Area.
There were only two other occupied campsites when we visited. Given the location and facilities available, I expect it would get busy during summer and autumn.
There was no camp fee since we visited prior to the official camping season. Check the BLM website for current rates.
We’d definitely return .
camper-682734 would stay here again
