Moved from one side of campground to other, but no big deal because we were camping on an island.
The only negative we had was during this time of year the small little biting bugs were vicious. I had welts and bite marks for almost a week afterwards.
Sites were level and provided privacy between campers. Very quiet and night and amazing stars, bird life to observe.
One of our favorite parts of this state park was the amazing fitness trail they developed. We loved the hiking and workout stations along the sandy path.
We love St George Island and would definitely camp here with some extra bug spray.

Remote Barrier Island Beach Park... nightly rate includes all fees and taxes. Didn't realize the park is essentially the eastern half of St. George island. Very large with miles of beaches. Assume it would still get crowded in the summer with daily fee guests. Campground is small but site was level and spacious. Verizon had strong signal but unusable speed. ATT had poorer signal but usable speed. As indicated in other reviews, no dogs on beach but they are welcome at the city beach at the lighthouse. Another park we have flagged for extended return trip in warmer months.

The only reason I gave this campground 4 stars is because dogs aren’t allowed on the beaches.

It’s a bit of a drive to go anywhere, just from the campground to the gate to the park takes about 10 minutes, then another 10 minutes to the bridge.
The donut place is delicious, make sure you get there before they sell out.
We had trouble with internet cell service at our particular site (42) but in other spots of the campground and in the beach parking lots it worked great. This was both with Verizon and AT&T so maybe we were in some blank hole dead zone space or something.

After you cross the bridge its 4 miles to the gate and another 4 miles to the campground on 25 mph roads. Check-in was an easy drive by at the gate house. Sites are fairly close together, some with trees in between for separation. 50A and water worked well. Overall excellently maintained park. Bathrooms with showers are excellent, 3 shower stalls in each. No laundry on site. Ice and firewood available from camp hosts. Its a 20 minute drive to get to the stores on the island, one local grocery and one small Piggly Wiggly. Several restaurants on the island and many more in Eastpoint.
Lots of beach hiking, you can hike around the island on the beach, there are a couple of inland trails as well. Campgrounds is a 1/2 mile walk from the Gulf beach and 1/4 mile from the bay.
AT&T cell service was 1-2 bars but boasted nicely. RSRP went from -125 to -85. Several HDTV channels available.

Have waited six months into our RV life to start reviews for fair comparisons. Stayed 3 nights in 35 foot RV+tow car at $29/night. This stop was not ever part of our plan but when the winter weather forecast for TX came in we decided to extend our Florida stay before heading west as planned. We absolutely LOVED this campground and wish we could have stayed longer. There aren’t many trails, but the ones that are there are miles long in a gorgeous setting. Even saw a Great Horned Owl one evening. And of course the (empty) beach truly is a “forgotten coast” that was lovely. Had gloomy cold rainy weather almost the entire time while there but that could not put a damper on how much we loved it.

Beautiful campground! Sites offer privacy from behind and some have more privacy between sites than others. Sizes vary. Bathhouses were clean and convenient. Plenty of hot water. The beach is a short walk out the campground entrance and across the street. Two kayak/small boat Appalahicola bay (East Cove) put ins in the park. We have never seen so many stars! Amazing dark sky at night. One drawback are the mosquitos and no see-ums. They are BAD. Tolerable, as we were there in February but I can't imagine how bad they would be in the spring/summer.
Higher numbered sites back up to the dunes, have a more pleasant back view and you can hear the ocean.
Trail at end of campground that leads to bay (grat place to wade and fish) and a long hiking trail out to the primitive camping area.
Excellent fishing! We caught flounder, red fish, and most abundantly, speckled trout. Very shallow water with slow tides and can use waders.
Just after the bridge and as you first come on to St. George Island, there are two nicely stocked small groceries and a few restaurants that all offer carry out and some have outdoor dining. Don't miss Weber's donuts (check seasonal schedule).
We used Sprint/T-mobile phones and only had 1 to 2 bars but had excellent internet speeds using our phones as a hot spot. Prepaid Verizon data plan on a jet pack with a MiMo antenna could not produce usable internet speeds likely due to busy cell towers.

RV fun at St George Island State Park - Sept 2018
