Easy walk to the lake but sites not lakefront- Molly Brown has sites closer to the lake. Well maintained with clean toilets. Water is back on but signs indicate that water purity has been a recent issue. I had very good cell reception (T-Mobile). Some mosquitoes but not too bad. I think closer to marshy area could be more problematic.
My site (27) was level. Enjoyed my stay and will be back next year all being well.

The shade kept my teardrop a comfortable temperature during summer heat, but I needed to plan a bit more for solar panel efficiency. Trees provided privacy, that relaxing "shushing" sound in a breeze and shelter from wind. There was a marshy spot at the center of the campground loop that probably contributed to mosquito population, but they were not overwhelming with incense and repellant. This place was walking distance to Turquoise Lake and a short drive to Leadville. Will visit again.

Although we could put out our slide, we could only put out our awning about 3 ft to not hit the tree. The trees made it a little tricky to back in our 30' Class A, just needed to be careful. Easy walk to Turquoise Lake and nice walk around lake to other campgrounds. Just fyi, no water or electricity, bathrooms were clean, but dump station was closed again (same as in 2020). Our friends stayed in site 14, which is only for 20' trailers and it we a back-in with big uphill which made leveling difficult.

We were close to both neighbors but didn't bother us. Beautifully wooded. The camp host Trudy was a gem. We found a cancellation by chance when arriving the 2nd time here and got 3 nights. Amazing location. Great cell reception. Good access to the trail to the lake. Kinda far for walking a kayak or other lake vehicle.

The trail along the lake was a lot of fun to run and I saw many mountain bikers as well. Paddleboarding in the evening was amazing- totally calm waters reflecting the mountains!
Only down side was there is no water available at the campgrounds due to a water shortage.

We really enjoyed our stay at Silver Dollar. This is a high mountain campground situated on the shore of Turquoise Lake. Each site is equipped with a picnic table and fire ring and some have grills and tent pads. A short nature path leads through the trees from the campground to the lake shore. Our site was huge, with tons of space between us and the sites on either side. The wooded setting was very nice among the tall lodgepole pine, although the mosquitos were pretty fierce so be sure to bring plenty of bug spray. We stayed at Silver Dollar during the week of the 4th of July, and even though the campground was full for 2 of our 5 nights it was pretty quiet. I think our end of the loop was quieter because the sites were more widely spaced. So if you visit at a busy time (all weekends in summer) and are looking for peace and quiet be sure to get a site at the beginning of loop B. My favorite site was number 6. There are no waterview sites at Silver Dollar (Molly Brown and Baby Doe, also NF campgrounds have some sites with water views), but the shore of Turquoise lake was only a short 5 minutes walk from our site. The lake was gorgeous with clear water, sandy shores and snow capped mountains all around. The only reason I am giving this campground a 4 rating is because during our visit there was a problem with the water system which resulted in no potable water. The host said the water had been off all summer, yet there is no notification about this problem on either the NF website or the ReserveAmerica site where we made our reservation. Also the two dump stations run by the NF are both closed (for good?) again with no notification anywhere. Luckily there is a dump station at the sanitation department in Leadville, but I think the NF needs to update their website. Oh, one more thing, the flush toilets have been replaced by vault toilets. They are new, clean and don't smell bad, but once again the NF website is wrong. Anyway, despite these oversites and misinformation this is really nice, basic campground on an absolutely beautiful lake. We would come back and stay here again without hesitation.
