The impoundment behind the Shelldrake Dam is good for wildlife watching, fishing, kayaking, canoeing. Access is by dirt road; 4WD not needed.

Drove back here with our lifted 30 foot airstream from the road from the lake access area, planning to take a left into the old campground. The road to what looks like the old campground loop on Satelite view, intentionally has logs across it now blocking the way. Thankfully they are far enough in that we backed the airstream in there and decided to head what was now straight out back to dam road. There were spots that could be used in a pinch but the whole spot was ‘meh’. Would have been ok for a quick overnight in a van, etc. not somewhere to spend the work week. If it wasn’t so close to dark we probably would have dropped the trailer at the logs and drove more towards Superior but decided to take a spot at the nearby campground instead on the lake. All the way to the logs we had 2 bars LTE Verizon but didn’t seem fast. Had “no service” on our ATT phones. Didn’t get the booster out.

The official campground was a closed in 2014, but there is nearby open land to camp on, or you can camp at Andrus Lake Campground, very nice and only about 1/2 mile away.
This is a nice place to kayak around as it is the backwaters for a small dam.
