We were so happy to find a peaceful place to stay near Huntsville. We stayed a bit past the first loop of RVs and were glad we did as the site had seemed to have more elbow room than the sites when you first drive in. The most frustrating thing about our stay was trying to check in--the host wasn't there when we arrived, and when we called to verify our site number (they don't do online reservations), she was irritated ("I don't have my book with me!") but we managed to get settled just fine. Other than the cranky host, we loved our time there. There is a huge playground not far from the campground, a large grassy area right where we camped, and across the road is a track, soccer fields and a pool (closed when we were there, unfortunately). It was well maintained and we loved our time there.

Access is easy. There are various Pull through and back insights. You should see the camp host and pay $10 as a deposit for a gate key, since the gate closes at 8 o’clock, if you plan to be out exploring after that time.
My only gripe is that my site had the worst water access of any park I’ve ever seen. The water spigot was in a box below ground level, so I was on my knees hooking up water. I also had to dig weeds and rocks out of the box just to be able to access the hose bib.
Please County: put in a vertical water pipe and bring this installation up to a reasonable standard for water access.

I stayed 2 months at Sharon Johnston Park, and paid a monthly rate of $550. Stayed in the Fall, so weather started out hot and quickly turned cold. It does freeze here, so be prepared for nights that might freeze your water hose and/or sewer pipe. No threat of water being turned off. Management is super responsive and helpful (I accidentally locked myself out of the park one night, and they came and let me in). Park is very large, with large open grass areas, lots of trees, and a fishing pond. Each spot is large, with long paved spot big enough for your largest RV. Its so peaceful here. Never an issue with noise. I work from my RV, and this place has been ideal.

So much to explore at this park. It is so big and spread out that you can explore with kiddos really easily.
We checked in with the ranger and paid cash for our spot. Sites are back in so you do need to be comfortable with that, but sites and roads are spacious for you to be able to get in and ours was very level.
Once we got settled we explored. There are little frogs and fire bugs out. We saw ducks and geese as well as turtles. So much to see for little eyes. Going out and walking around daily became part of our routine.
There is a pool that you can get access to since this is part of the parks system locally it's across the way and it is $5 per person. It closes at 5 though so we didn't seem to make it over there early enough.
This park was quiet and really easy to down to Huntsville from.
TIP: I would recommend getting the key to get in and out after 8PM so you don't get locked out or in.
We have friends in the area so we will likely be back and this is for sure the spot we would pick.
