“Another free alternative to the Lakeview Campground”

Large flat area- plenty of room for a lot of RVs or Tents. 4 main areas to camp, although one is a bit close to the well-travelled dirt road, so you will hear the vehicles and get some dust. It's in the bottom of a gully, so perhaps less windy- and the canyon will get cooler air at night flowing down from the west side of the Huachuca Mountains. So- might be a nicer place to stay on hotter days.
The pro's here are
1. it's free
2. Good flat area for camping
3. easy to drive into- really not much further from the Parker Canyon Lake boat dock and store than the defined 'for fee' campground.
4. It's right on the AZTrail (hiking, backpacking, trail running). The AZTrail is really well maintained and marked. Hard to get lost.
5. There are many medium sized trees around. Scrub oaks and Alligator Juniper- to provide a little shade.
6. Seasonal creek
7. Pretty easy turnaround spots for larger RVs- just don't go all the way to the back site.
The negatives:
1. Dirt road (but easy 2WD)
2. No water
3. No toilets.
4. No cell service
5. Lotsa' cattle free ranging through the area. Some areas smelled like cow pee. Cow pies everywhere. Dead cow in one of the campsite areas.
So- a decent boondocking spot.
morey000 would stay here again
