Plenty of room per site and enough space to not feel cramped next to neighbors. We camped in a spot right next to the lake but camp host told us other, more inland spots are available too. Outhouses next to our site but there was a bathhouse a short walk away. Big open field area next to site as well. Camp host was very friendly and informative. Shady and well kept site, there was someone mowing the morning we left. It was great for the price. I had enough service to use my phone with AT&T.

We backed up to the lake, the site sloped to the lake quite a bit, and a Osage Orange tree kept dropping fruit, but was a nice park over all. T mobile internet was slow, I was able to get my Starlink to work with a few interruptions from trees

This state park is heavily used on summer weekends, especially the lakefront Hickory Point campground. There is no foliage between sites, just grass and some tree trunks, so it feels quite crowded when full. We camped in the less popular Deer Run area, so we had more space and it felt much quieter. The only shower house is located over at Hickory Point, and it had more bugs than I prefer plus those annoying push button shower controls. Our favorite things about the park were the location, about 30 minutes drive from the historic attractions in downtown Springfield, and the very good value for the money. Camp hosts were friendly and helpful. We were originally going to stay at the fairgrounds, but with forecast hot weather we really wanted to have shade and the state park offered plenty of good options. I'd give it 3.5 stars.
Sites are electric only, with water available at the dump station. Our site was generally level (needed one block on one side) and in good condition. Internet on ATT was poor (1 bar LTE). TIP: Do NOT go to the park office to register. There is no RV parking at the office and no way to turn around. Go directly to your site.

We stayed here the first weekend in April as our daughter had a soccer tournament in Springfield. Early spring camping can be iffy due to weather and the trees not being leafed out yet. Lots of trees in the Hickory Point and Deer Run campgrounds, so you should have plenty of shade during the summer. The inner loop sites in Hickory Point have fewer trees, thus I assume less shade. A majority of the outer loop sites in Hickory Point are on and/or very near the water. We saw several sites with kayaks on hand ready to attack the water. We stayed in Hickory Point as we wanted to be closer to the shower house, but we did drive through Deer Run. I would be satisfied with either CG.
Shower house shows its age, but it was good enough for me. Showers were warm with decent water pressure.
Two hosts on site. Very nice and we saw them driving around several times. Firewood is available for sale. We did not buy any, but I believe the sign said $15 for a stack.
Two concrete ADA sites in Hickory Point. One is near the shower house and the other is right on the water.
We did the Deer Run hiking trail. I wouldn’t write home about it, but it gave us something to do. It was approximately 1.5 miles according to my wife.
I would rate this CG as a 3.5 if it were an option. We saw a lot of boats on the lake, so I assume if you’re into fishing this could be a good spot.
No major issues or complaints to speak of. Easy enough to get to. Was about 25 minutes away from the soccer complex for us.

This was a one-night stop for me, but appears to be a popular local park which features boating, swimming, hiking and fishing. It’s located in a rural area and getting there involves a few turns on smaller roads through rural communities. Not to worry, your GPS will get your there!
The sites are level, wide and unpaved but nicely covered with gravel. Sites have both electric and water. The spacing is good and there are shade trees, but not so many to prevent use of solar charging. Being off the main highway, the is quiet at night, except for the welcome songs of frogs and birds. The campground is family-friendly and feels quite secure.
I have only one complaint with the park: The bathroom/shower, which is clean and well-maintained, is situated far from all the campsites. In fact, the only sites adjacent to the building are the host sites. The bathroom is a fairly long walk across a field or along the park loop. If your RV/camper is equipped with a bathroom, this will obviously not be a consideration.

We stayed 2 days in August and had a great time using Sangchris as a basecamp for our time in Springfield. The sites were spacious and had electric service. There was no water at the site but a dump station is on site. We stayed at Hickory Point and it was nearly sold out. Despite this, the campground was quiet and the boys found friends to play with around the park and the playground. There are several small boat docks, where we could put in our kayaks and paddle the lake. The restroom and shower facilities are clean. Firewood is foe sale at the host station for $15 per bundle. This more than lasted our moderate fire pit usage over two nights the host delivered it to our site and was very helpful. We certainly recommend the waterfront lots and believe that site 15 might be one of the best views with unobstructed water views. More info @RebootingUs.

The place is nice enough for locals, or even if you are passing by and want something close to Springfield, otherwise I would t go out of my way for it.
There is little shade, and no privacy between camps. Basically an rv park without amenities.
The campsites have a lifted almost bbq like fire pit. Which isn’t enclosed, so your burning wood might fall out the ends.
The bathrooms are really dirty, and lots of graffiti.
The wood they sell is so wet, we could barely even get it to sizzle before going out.
Campers are also rowdy, and the noise rules aren’t really followed.
Overall, if you need a quick overnight, it’s fine, but I wouldn’t go out of your way for it.
Also note that the address shown here is the camp office. The first campground is another 2 miles down the road, and the next campground after that is another 2 miles further.
Also note, showers and wood are not at the deer loop.

We were at Deer Run. Very friendly hosts, made our first trip easy! Nice little approx 2 mile hike in the area. Fishing available (unsure about licensing). Electric only. Potable water and dump available as you enter either campground. Took a trip into Taylorville one day and had tacos at Taco Gringo (YUM!). Would definitely stay here again. Biking can be done there - gravel road. Equestrian Loop, Primitive Camping, Group Camping. OurRVPostcards.com

We’ve stayed st several IL state parks and have enjoyed staying at them. Here we stayed at Deer Run campground. Site was very level with electric only. Sites are well spaced so you’re not on top of one another. We even liked the unique campfire pit!

This is my first review on campendium as a new member. I been camping here at least once a year since 2017. It’s 30 minutes south east of Springfield. What I love about this state park are the awesome lake views at sunset. This place is full of wild life. Lots of geese hang out here and they are very active in the morning. I love the geese making their dawn calls. I stay at the hickory point side. Sites 4 through 15 are my favorite. Shower building currently closed. I assume it’s the state of Illinois continued over the top hysteria over COVID 19. The bathrooms are still open. My wife, daughter, and I also enjoy fishing and kayaking here. Calm quiet lake. Occasionally you here a boat charging down the middle of the lake but doesn’t bother me at all. When it rains, it can be a bit muddy here. Once the day is over and weather is willing, you will be treated to spectacular sunsets over the lake looking out from hickory point. I often meet up with friends here if we can manage to get adjacent sites. Always enjoy it here. I work in Springfield so this time I am staying here all week and driving to and from work. Att cell service is not good here but I didn’t come here to be on phone or computer.
