At the top of Sacramento Pass on either side of the road is dispersed camping. You can hear the road noise, but it subsides at night and never bugged us during the day. Mostly for tenters or car camping but a few spots for larger rigs. On the south side of pass, would only recommend car camping, junipers very close to road as you drive in.
We camped on the north side right after passing over the cattle guard, 39°8′35″ N 114°20′3″ W. After passing over cattle guard, stay right at the fork, the road to the left doesn’t go far and looks to be an older, no longer used road. At the fork you can see where we camped on the rise, that spot is a little higher than the main road in. Do not camp low or where water could flow/flood, especially during what Nevada calls their monsoon season (end of July into August). Before driving in we spoke with Nevada DOT workers and they said during monsoon season small washes flood easily and they had just seen the previous week boulders half the side of their truck rolling down a wash.
Just beyond where we camped there is another spot on the right which we probably could have barely backed into (would have been nicer and not seen from road) but there was a fallen juniper on the left side of the road preventing some maneuverability. Beyond that, on the left was another camp spot, that for us would have required a Y turn to get in, but another possibility. Mind you, we are pretty adventurous.
We parked at the Pass and walked in before driving in (which we would highly recommend for anyone towing a trailer). We have a 28’ trailer bumper tow and wanted to make sure we could get in and out. With two hunting dogs, we prefer to not be in an established campground, but knew we had the option of turning around and staying at the BLM campground (back down the road to the east) which was almost full on the weekend.
Where camped we had no coverage with Verizon until we set up our Booster and then 3 bars and 3G, Internet was extremely slow to non-existent, but we could talk and text.
T-Mobile had 2 bars and 3G, but with the Booster it changed to 2-4 bars and 4G (not LTE) and internet still extremely slow.
Lori would stay here again
