I hate to be so naive but I saw pictures of a couple gators, do I have to be concerned if I camp on Rutherford Beach?

What is the max stay time here? Is it 14 days like most other dispersed camping that I see in other states? Thanks!

Getting here was very easy. We came in from New Orleans, stopped overnight at Atchafalaya Welcome Center (highly recommended overnight stop - seperate area for RV's from the trucks). It was a 2.5 hr drive to Rutherford Beach from her and the drive was scenic and comfortable.
The drive on the beach was fine (I towed a 27' travel trailer) and I found a spot to park about 1/2 mile from the entrance, passing quite a few other camper along the way. I made sure to park in line with others, and also careful about not going to close to the water, as some part of the ground closer to the water is softer.
It is not a fantastic beach, given the water was not inviting and of course there is a note at the entrance recommending we stay out of the water, given high levels of bacteria present. Looking out to the gulf, you can also see a few oil platforms and one looked like it was no more than 3 - 4 miles out. We did have great weather and both the sunrise and sunset was fantastic. There were a lot of mosquitos, but not as vicious as the ones we have experienced in the past - so they were quite tolerable, nevertheless, they quickly follow you into your camper or car the moment that door opens.
There is a spigot at the entrance, but its not clear to me if the water was potable, so we only used it to do a quick rinse of the wheels and the belly of our travel trailer when we left. So make sure you have enough water to wash and drink, There is trash collection at the entrance and a set of porta potties, but nothing else.
Overall, we enjoyed the experience and if the opportunity comes up again, we will come back.

So peaceful and just what we needed. The seashells are absolutely beautiful. Signs posted that water has been tested positive for high bacteria so swimming is at your own risk.

The nearest store is a bit of a drive.
Will definitely come back here!

By far my family’s favorite boondocking spot. We stayed for 7 days and it was amazing. We can’t wait to be back. Beautiful views, sunsets, sunrises. Very spacious and you have a beachfront area to yourself. We stayed in December and the mosquitoes weren’t too bad, really only came out ask dusk and nothing we haven’t experienced before. This spot was perfect for stargazing and we witnessed so many shooting stars. We have a 22 ft travel trailer and had no issues with soft spots or getting stuck in the sand. Hearing the waves all night was wonderful and we saw so many owls late at night on the beach. There are port-a-potties available at the front, we didn’t utilize them so I can’t speak on cleanliness. No water or dump station on site so definitely fill up and dump your tanks before you head here. We have TMobile home internet which worked great as well as our Verizon cell service. There is a gas station about 15 minutes away that’s stocked pretty well but other than that you’re in the middle of nowhere and about 45 minutes from the closest town with stores, food, fast food, etc. so be sure to plan ahead and have what you need before arriving. My two young boys loved searching for shells and playing in the sand. You can’t swim here due to bacteria levels (signs are posted) but lots of other RVers were fishing and catching huge fish! Also once the sun starts to go down many dolphins come visit so close to shore. Its incredible! Highly recommend for anyone that wants a beautiful beach front free site!

Got here on A Sunday evening not many people was able to easily find a spot. Many other atvs running around the beach. Lots of crabs and shells. Little bit of garbage on beach. Beach is about 2 miles long or so. Seen lots of gators driving on road to beach. Some locals come down to fish during the day. Great free spot.

We had little issues with bugs because there was always a breeze. We also used tiki torches, bug spray, used coffee grounds in the sand and lawn treatment for the bugs too.
Beach never got overly crowded. There were more families coming just for the day to swim and fish. But at night it thinned out a little bit. We didn’t feel crowded.
The sand is made from crushed shells and there are tons of whole shells along the beach.
A few in the group were swimming and saw a gator swim on by.
We will definitely be coming back!

This area is notorious for getting stuck on the beach. They even gave a Facebook page to help people. We were one of the people.
