This is a workingman’s park with folks driving off before 8 a.m. This is a very basic layout, no trees, narrow gravel pads with grass between. Nothing extra. Bright security lights on all night. Only one barking dog, but quiet after 9p.m. We entered from I44 westbound, thru Waynesville, exit 159.

They have a box and envelopes for cash, $20 a night with water and electric and sewer. I decided to stay 2 nights and she said if I wanted longer just let her know. I walked into town today and around a park dedicated to the Cherokee Indians trail of tears. Interesting it’s December 12, 2023 and the Cherokee crossed December 9, 18?? Anyway the number to call is +1 (573) 774-6171 only Monday through Friday 8am-5pm. It’s a very short distance from I-44 and close to the interstate is a nice Walmart and Murphy gas plus a Cracker Barrel and other places to eat. There’s even a Lowe’s close to the Walmart.

I don't know if this applies to all the sites but for the new row at least (I checked several electrical boxes) this statement is posted inside the electrical box:
"No Ground Fault Protection, use acceptable assured equipment grounding program for corded equipment except for recreational
Vehicles with GFCI protection."
My surge protector read an error of E2 - open ground and would not connect. I tried the 50 amp outlet - no error msg but the electricity quit after a few minutes for no apparent reason. So the only option was too direct concert to the 30 amp outlet. So just user beware.
The more or less permanent sites were reasonably clean. Saw a few neighbors & dogs and they were all friendly. At dusk and beyond the wide life came out including deer, a raccoon family, big gopher.
T-Mobile 5G was the best signal 138 down & 12 up. There is apparently a year-round farmers market on Saturday, a demonstration garden along the short road into the park. There are walking trails on the other side of Rte. 66 in Laughlin Park and a few stores in town.
CALL THE TOWN OFFICE FIRST to verify availability then send in your registration form. You can still pay on site. The instructions on the website need to be updated.

We stopped on Sunday to hopefully grab a spot for a couple days. Upon arrival we noticed the pay kiosk was gone. After a little investigating we saw that now it is a reserve and pay in advance campground. Being Sunday City Hall was closed so paying was not an option. No ability to look online and see if sites are reserved and we didn’t want a knock at the door at 9pm telling us we were in a reserved spot so we left and went to another campground.

This is a nice city run campground along the Roubidoux Creek off of old Route 66. It is walking distance to Waynesville City square with the shops and restaurants. It is also close driving distance to all the normal interstate stores and eating places. Since Fort Leonard Wood is one of the few military posts without a campground on the installation, a lot of the campers in the campground are military, visiting military families or military retirees. We stayed here when we were waiting for housing on post, and lived here while leaving post to a new assignment. The city is great about keeping the campground clean, grass cut and sites repaired. The campground is in the flood plain for the creek and was wiped out last year in the 100 year flood in the region. The city has done a great job in repairing the campground after that flood. But they do require that campers not be more than 30 minutes away due to the flash flood threat. It is not hard to tell when the weather is going to be bad enough to cause a flash flood and in all our time here we have never seen the creek leave its banks. The campground is quiet, although the road noise from 66 and the interstate can be heard at times. The prices are $20 a night, $100 a week or $300 a month. All come with a 10% discount for Good Sam or military. There is no host or office. A kiosk with information letter and money drop is located at the entrance to the campground or you can go .5 mile down the road and pay at the town city hall/clerk. The town in summer hosts a farmers market at the campground entrance on Saturdays. There are 24 sites, all gravel, semi-level, with 12 of those being pull throughs. The pull throughs are 45-60 feet long and the other 12 are back in's in the 30-40 foot size. Although there are 24 sites some (~1-2) are missing their electric posts and have not been replaced since last years flood. You can access the creek for fishing and there are two large grass field areas for pet walking. The town police do patrol the area on occasion and we have never seen any out of line campers or others in the campground. Numerous bicycle tours along Route 66 utilize the grass tent areas for an overnight stop. Since the flood has wiped out the existing showers/toilet in the past, the town has placed a towable / portable shower and toilet trailer on the campground. It has 3 shower/toilet rooms with one of those being a disabled capable room. There is no dump station on site but there is a trash bin at the entrance of the campground. The entrance off of Route 66 is a tight turn toward the campground and larger RVs need to watch their rear wheels.
