To update my previous review since I cant edit: the place was basically full by the end of day Thursday off season, anyone else would have to camp on top of others, in my view or wothout much lake view near toilet. Seen someine turn around and leave because of that. The place is very popular, not sure about others having it to themselves earlier, I guess posting it online had ruined it. So, a long bumpy drive but only 50-50 chance of good camping options. I wish they cut more campsites into the roadside (most old ones by the road are severely slanted), those are back from the days when the lake was full

I expected much larger beach to camp on. Its actually only quite a small open graveled area. I was dismayed to find another RV there when I arrived early in the week and off season, mid day. I wouldn't want to camp in such a small area anyway, anyone can show up crowd you out any time and I have no desire to hear, smell or see anyone else, including their RV generators or dogs. So I was able to find a small campsite away and out of sight with no one beng able to camp close but getting my class C into it and leveling was extremely hard, cost me a few scratches and still unsure if I can get back out ok. Also the road to the place is real PITA. Lots of rocks that can cut tires, ruts, untrimmed vegetarion scratching on the sides, very narrow and if you meet another vehicle its going to be a nightmare: there are no pullovers, turnatounds, its just 2 tracks for 2 miles cant back up over that. Paved road part is also PITA, the kind that shakes the RV like crazy with regular bumps I could only do 20mph on the paved part my motorhome sounded like its fall apart. Beatiful lake, tons of birds but not worth the difficult road risk of rv damage and lack of camping space to spread around for me in the class C. It might be different for a van, not sure

We ran into car trouble and had to leave our stuff overnight and when we came back the next day it was untouched. We also only had one neighbor and a few passerby cars looking to fish at the lake. The cell is great for verizon and the pit toilets are stocked, but it is very dusty. The lake didn’t seem swimmable and I was told by a local this lake was more for fishing. We only saw a few snakes (non venomous?) and the mosquitos go crazy during dawn and dusk. Overall would stay again and the locals pull over if you’re broken down !

We stayed late March and it was cold, without a doubt, but starting to warm up early April and so serene. We basically had the place to ourselves the entire time with the exception of a few over nighters only seen coming and going. I'm sure that's not the case in the summer months, but this spot is dope nonetheless. We have a 35 foot travel trailer and had no issues getting in, you can absolutely brave it to the lake, just go slow. There are a few pull through sites in the beginning, we chose a large spot, but if you want waterfront the main lake is where it's at. Two vault toilets there in great condition, everything here is really clean, it's impressive and love to see it. You can dump and get water/supplies at Eagle Lake RV ten min away. Frankie runs the place and does a great job. The closest town is Susanville 45 minutes away, so stock up before you come. Susanville does have a Walmart, Safeway, and a great laundromat. Donation box highly encouraged. Not much wildlife, except for some amazing birds. We have an 11 pound alpha dog and protecting him from predators is a full-time job so I'm sorry to all the hawks I yelled at... looking forward to coming back in the warmth!

This is one of the very few open places to camp during the COVID-19 lockdown, and it stands out both for its natural beauty and wildlife (in early May), and the fact that there are pristine, maintained vault toilets available on the point. There is a donation box at the entrance (which I think everyone should use) but is free if you want. Incredible number and diversity of birds, clouds of mostly non-biting insects, and very few other campers. As others mention, it's a pretty rutted road coming in in spots, and is very dusty indeed, but it's generally level and fine for most vehicles. The lake shore is rocky, and a little hard on dog paws, but it didn't stop mine from leaping in and having a great time (making for a very dirty van later...). Brink a kayak or paddleboard - the lake is like glass in the morning. The lake level is low, so no fishermen, but I suspect it gets crowded at other times, which would reduce this location's charm. If uncrowded, a fantastic private site next to the lake is found by turning left just before the main plateau at the road terminus. If crowded, that spot would probably get a lot of traffic with people on the way to the lake. It looks like a lot of sites aren't very level

As first time RV owners, and relatively new to the Bay Area, we found this site thanks to Campendium. Given the current COVID pandemic and shelter-in-place orders, I wanted to salvage my kids' spring break (and our sanity) with a secluded road trip. We spent Friday night into Saturday and broke in our RV on the first ever trip at Rocky Point East. We were the only folks there.
All other reviews I've read here and elsewhere were correct. Other than the distance, we hope to go back (300mi each way for us).
Tip: Check for road closures. Google Maps had us taking Lake Road from HWY 36... only, about 5 miles in, the road was closed without warning. So we made the multi-point turn around in our 29' Class C. Good news is Rocky Point was still accessible from the East, by going into Susanville, heading North on 139, and then connecting with Eagle Lake Road from there.
We were in a 29' (bumper to bumper) Class C and made it into the camp area without issue. The brush at the beginning of the gravel road (as you leave the residential area and head back into BLM land) was a little tight, but was fine. There was some slow spots, but you are supposed to stay at or below 10mph anyhow, so that's fine. For anyone with an RV, there is plenty of room for turn-arounds. If you haven't hit large boulders lined up to keep you from driving further, you are safe to keep going.
Loved seeing the osprey and a bald eagle as we walked the point. There are plenty of set up spaces with firepits, and room to be very much dispersed. The mosquitos did come out, but we forgot fire wood. I am sure having a camp fire would have helped (we mitigated with bug spray and just went back intot he RV to eat instead of sitting outside).
Thank you to the Campendium reviewers before us for giving us the info we needed to take the trip.
I didn't ask how many bars, but my wife has a new 5G phone and said she was getting 5G service there.

Cell/ internet is good at 3 bars Verizon LTE. Not much shade, but great for solar. There were a few people in and out during our week-long stay in September, but it was mostly peaceful and quiet.
The BLM area has a couple of vault toilets and a donation box. The water in the lake is dirty and very low- there are signs indicating the water is too low for any watercraft to launch.
The Eagle Lake RV park nearby has a supply store and dump/fill.

When we first arrived at the Rocky Point campground at Eagle lake, we didn't go too far down the road. We pulled over at the second campsite we found and unhitched.
We drove down the road a little farther, but it seemed like the road might be too bumpy to bring the trailer so we stayed put.
The following morning, a steady stream of trailers were leaving and we talked to a few and learned that the bumpy part of the road doesn't last very long, and at the tip of the point there is a huge turn around, parking for many RV's, some fire rings and 2 pit toilets.
So we had to check it out. We also found a more secluded spot on the point where we ended up staying.
This is one of my very favorite boondocking spots, if only there was a town closer to it.
