Short drive to the west entrance of the national park, a 5 mile drive to Terlingua old ghost town (which we loved), and about 20 miles to the Barton Warnock visitor center to the state park. The RV park is functional with decent spaces and wide roads, all packed gravel. We were in a back-in site which I don’t recommend. The view from our rear living fiver was the back of a restaurant and other businesses. Get a pull-through—they have better views. The owners are responsive, keep things clean and functional. They’ve invested in a lot of new desert plants which will be nice as they mature. Our Verizon coverage was 3Gwith 4 bars. The park’s Wi-Fi didn’t perform well so we were using our 3G cellular service.

Get your big groceries and diesel in Ft. Stockton or Alpine. Gas station and country store are close, but you’re going to pay more for it. (makes sense, it’s rural y’all!). May 2024

The park is still being developed & the owners are some of the nicest people you will meet!! A local group of musicians performed one evening.
At this time the only amenities are a dog park & dump station. Roads & sites are rocked & will improve as the ground settles. We had booked a dry camp site but were upgraded to an electric site with no additional charges. The site is prepped for water & sewer but not hooked up as of yet.
The park is in the open with great views of the night skies. It also allows for some dusty conditions which is very common for this part of the state. Noise levels were not an issue during our stay.
Be aware of the cancellation policy. They use a 3rd part provider for reservations which require payment in full at time of booking. There are NO refunds if cancellation is within 30 days. Not a problem for a single night stay but a much bigger issue if you booked multiple nights.

We really enjoyed our stay at Road Runner. The hosts were accommodating and the guests were quiet, respectful, and friendly. The RV Park is clean and well-maintained. Perfect location for visiting Big Bend. With good views of the surrounding area, we highly recommend staying here.

Great jump off point for Big Bend NP Big Bend SP. Park owners friendly and take good care of the park. Nice plantings throughout. Not much in the way of trails from the park, but that isn't the reason to stay here. Reasons to stay include proximity to fantastic hiking in nearby NP and SP, and kayaking on Rio Grande.

This RV park is growing and you can see constant growth each day. Mind you, you are in the middle of a hot, dusty barren desert but when you come back from exploring the National or State Park all day, you are welcomed to a nice piece of "home". The park is well looked after, with great desert landscaping at each site, awesome fire pits, and sturdy metal picnic tables. We stayed in 2 different sites and both were easy to get to level.
The staff and owners are very friendly and it's obvious they are doing everything they can to make your trip a memorable stay. It's as if they want you to feel how they would want to feel if they were on vacation.
There are two community areas with games like Corn Hole, Horseshoes, Jenga, Tetherbole, BBQs, multiple fire pits, and benches. Next to the main community area is a nice fenced dog park for the dogs to get exercise and stretch their legs after being locked up all day in the RV while we were out exploring.
The park is on 40 acres so there's plenty of space to walk the dogs if they are not into playing with others in a park. We have one that loves parks and one that hates them so it was nice to be able to cater to both.
The only downside we found (but this goes for every park in Terlingua) is there is no shade. You can't escape the heat here, it's all around you, no way around it so prepare for that.
Cell service is really bad all around this area so don't rely on your Pet Monitors to notify you while you are away if you have them. We were concerned about the inside temps of the RV so we stopped by the NP Visitor Center occasionally to connect to their guest wifi to check our inside temps from our phones while exploring the park.
I heard Starlink worked great out here but I can tell you, there was no way I could work from either of my cell services AT&T was barely getting 1 Mbps download and Verizon barely showed a connection of 0.1 Mbps download.
PRO TIP: Gas is A LOT cheaper inside the National Park. The attendant told me since it is a NP, they are not allowed to mark up their prices and the one in Terlingua can mark up as much as they want. It was $1.23 cheaper inside the park for reference.

Pull-through FHU 30/50 amp. Concrete pad. Site #39
General: Take this park into a different location and it would be average at best. Close to Big Bend NP and SP. Not much for a camping environment, even with such beautiful Dark Skies declaration, but they try by offering a games area which is nice. There are nicer parks nearby with better camping ambiance but this one is really good simply for location only.
Staff: Did not personally encounter staff. Check-in is at entrance using a whiteboard.
Sites: Bare bones gravel pads with a fire ring. Hard to give this too high of praise when the sites are basic necessities.
Campground Road: Dirt and gravel road. Easy entrance from main road.
Campground WiFi: Could not always connect to campground WiFi but it would occasionally work. Most campgrounds have been upgrading wifi of late, and I think this campground has yet to improve.
Grounds: New sites under construction so tractors working most days. Clean and maintained well.
Bathrooms/Showers: Did not use.
Laundry: Did not use.
Location: Gas, groceries, and local restaurants all within 5 min.
Near highway: No.
Near train: No.
Cell using booster: AT&T (2-3 of 4 bars - 4G) and Verizon (1-2 of 4 bars - 4G).
AT&T was primary option for work on a vpn, slightly delayed Zoom video meetings, and streaming struggled.
Verizon struggled and was not useful for work on vpn, could not have Zoom meetings, and could not stream.

This isn't an RV resort, there is no pool or Pickleball courts or activity center. If you want that kind of park, you probably don't want to go to Terlingua in the first place! It is ideally located close to the National Park entrance and Terlingua ghost town. There are a lot of RV parks in the area but this one looked the best by far. We would highly recommend.
One of our favorite things about this park is that they occassionally provide live music by the campfire at night. We were there two weeks and twice they had live local musicians play for free (we did tip them of course). Both of those nights were special hearing live music out in the desert.

Campground looks nice but we were passing through and needed to dump our tanks. They would not allow us to. Their name shows up on line as a place allowing dumps but this is not the case. Seems like all the campgrounds in this area do not want non customers to use their dump sites even when you offer to pay them.

Just a warning to all. Made advance reservation but had an accident and was unable to travel. I tried to re-schedule the reservation (over $200 paid for 5 nights). I was aware of the cancellation policy but wanted to shift the reservation to a future date...not happening unless 30 days notice. I was 8 days out. They were nice on the phone but unwilling to negotiate. Just keep in mind when booking reservations. KOA only charged a $10.00 cancellation fee. In this case I lost over $200.00. My bad!!
