Free camping! We spent a Sunday and Monday night here in August 2019. It's a great campground for tents, but we were able to put our 20' trailer into site #3. There are only four campsites, and all four would allow a small trailer/rv. It's approximately 5 miles down a curvy gravel road from highway 2 out of Tofte. A really pretty drive.
You should be aware that this is a rustic campground with no water or garbage services provided. Bring your own water or be prepared to filter water from the Poplar River. The single vault toilet was spotless, with ample TP supplied. Someone had even left a bottle of hand sanitizer for general use.
Sites #2 and #3 have direct access to the Poplar River, going down built in steps. Site #2 access to the river had a nice rock dam in the river which provides a fun little swimming hole. The water was roughly upper thigh height in an adult. Site #3 has a smaller, muddier area blocked off. Site #2 is definitely much nicer.
Sunday night the campground filled. Monday morning we were the only ones remaining. We were able to get into the swimming hole and splash around.
Site #4 is the farthest from the river. Site #1 looks like it could share the river access with site #2.
We loved sleeping to the sound of the rushing river. We loved the solitude offered.
Definitely mosquito country in August. Bring bug repellent.
