There are 9 sites with water and electric hook up for $12 per night. There is also a separate primitive area for tents only, for $8 per night ($20 for a group). The modern sites each have a fire ring and a picnic table, and 3 or 4 of them have a small pavilion of sorts to provide shade. The covering on these structures is to provide shade ONLY and will not keep you dry in the event of rain. Each site has a gravel pad and they all vary in how level they are, but none of them are terrible. From what I could tell, there was only one vaulted toilet and it is all the way at the end of the road, directly next to site #9. Within the area there are some nice, simple hiking trails, as well as a frisbee golf course, a pond, and a couple covered picnic areas. Additionally, this campground is horse friendly with both a barn and small pens near the primitive camping area.
The town of Ottumwa is about 15 minutes away and has just about anything you would need. We were lucky enough to come through during their Oktoberfest celebration and enjoyed some live music, good beer, and delicious brats!
The one thing this campground is lacking is mature tress in the camping area. If you are someone who likes to park your rig in the shade, this park is not for you. Otherwise, this place is great and we would stay here again in a heartbeat.
