Our site was right by the lake and that was great fun for the kids all weekend. You had to go down a steep but short hill to get to the lake. The site was private and only had neighbors on the back side. It was not totally level but a lot of the other sites on our loop seemed level. The loop we were on was quite and didn’t have a bathhouse. The grounds were well maintained. The cell reception was weak, spotty and unpredictable and there was no WiFi. We didn’t go to the bath house in the other loops, but I heard there was no soap. There didn’t appear to be a lot of mosquitoes but something was biting us. Run the water a while before hooking up. It ran brown for little while but did flush out. We had friends who stayed in the cabins across the small cove. The electricity in the cabins was easily shorted out.

Great time was had by the whole family! The rv lots are great and the whole state park has plenty to do!
We have xfiniti mobile which piggy backs off of Verizon. Signal was spotty in the area we stayed but other parts of the park we had full bars. Most of the time at the site we had no service and then all the sudden it would have one bar for a moment and a burst of texts would come through. Was kind of a downer but it was actually a blessing to actually unplug.

We are full time RVers and loved staying at this campground during the off months. Campground hosts were easy to work with for check in and when we extended. Our site was on top of the hill overlooking the lake. The kids loved the playground and riding their bikes. Trails were limited due to leaf coverage and all the rain they’ve been getting. We still managed to hike the cub lake trail. Bathhouse was very clean. Though, hot water didn’t seem to exist. Eek. Cell service was next to nonexistent. We were ok with the lack of service for the most part. Really makes you disconnect to reconnect. We would go into town if we needed service. The female at the visitor center was a delight to talk with. She knows a lot about the area (her father worked for the forestry). She showed the kids their corn snake and gave them some cool educational worksheets. Lexington (the town closest. About 7 miles away) was nice. Had several amenities. Library has storytime on Mondays at 10a for the little and a great history section run by a volunteer. All in all we would definitely stay here again. Would love to come back in warmer weather to kayak and hike more.

We enjoyed the campground itself and would love to come back during warmer months to enjoy down time via the water, hiking, and other offerings such as horseback riding. However this experience was not during a 'down time'. We are working fulltime RVers and the cell signal was very weak. Our booster setup saved the day so that we could stay; it took our speed tests from .7/.2 down/up to 2/1.... barely workable, but at least streaming isn't part of our work requirements. Bottom line is it's a great park for a relaxing time with FHU and beautiful views.

We were looking for a quiet place to spend a down day after a busy conference in Nashville. This fit the bill perfectly.
I would have a hard time imagining anyone having trouble getting into any site in the campground, regardless of size. Sites are well spaced apart and driveways have easy access from the road. We chose a site on the hill overlooking the lake with a great view but no shade.
My only real complaint about our stay is the petty $5 reservation fee we were charged...we didn't make a reservation, we paid at check in. It's only 5 bucks but it seems ridiculous that they can't figure out how to remove that charge...nobody else does that.
Cell service is almost non existent. If you don't have a reservation, pay at the ranger station just south of 40 near the entrance of the park. Otherwise you'll have to head to the Pin Oak Lodge or find the host on duty...they're off on Sunday.
This campground is 14 miles from 40, come provisioned for your stay or its a trek to the small town of Lexington. There is a small camp store about halfway into the park with firewood and standard convenience items.
Worth noting that there are no hiking trails near the campground. This campground is for boating, fishing, and relaxing.

Beautiful campground with some sites waterfront. We were traveling I-40 and stopped here overnight in our 38' 5th wheel. I only gave it 4 stars because there's not much cell phone service and no data. The lady at the lodge said they are working on that. We would definitely stop again.

Pretty good campground .Nice lake with swimming area.
GPS started taking us on a crazy and long backroad narrow route so we found another way and got there in one piece.

This is a full hook-up state park right on a lake. When you enter the park, it's about a 14 mile drive to the campground. Roads are curved but paved and well maintained.
Each site has full hook-ups. Even though many of the sites are sloped, they did a very good job leveling the RV parking area.
Restrooms seem adequate and there was one washer and one dryer.
So, why not 5 stars. We arrived in mid-September, mid-week with no reservations. We drove down the 14 miles to the RV campground. As you enter the campground there is a booth but no attendant - not surprised. At the booth was a box with campground maps - empty. Just ahead was a sign to call a number, back at the lodge or office, of arriving with no reservations. We called on both an ATT and Verizon cell phone. Finally making connection, we were asked which site we wanted. How would we know - no maps and we were at the sign post entrance. We gave them the first spot we could see. They need all the general info and credit info and kept saying how bad the connection was at the campground.
Recommendation - either make an online reservation, or stop at the lodge/ office OR drive to the campground, record the phone number and go pick a spot and call.
I'm guessing on a beautiful summer day, this is a very nice campground.

This was the worst camping experience I've ever had. The camping sites we're really small. And they were so picky about their grass. The geese poop all over the play area and the swimming area was disgusting!!
