We called ahead to the police department as others have mentioned and were welcomed. Things quieted down at the park around 8:30 PM on a Saturday night, and we slept very well. The katy rails to trails path is directly behind the park and is a great place to walk or ride your bike.

They gave recommendations on the best place to park and even said to call back if we needed anything at all. We debated calling for ice, but we thought that might be stretching the friendliness.
Katy’s Trail ran right next to the park and we used it in the evening and in the morning for taking a wonderful walk. The only thing keeping this from being a 5 star boondock is the fact there was barely a single bar of cell service. This is a great stop and you just can’t beat free!

Easy to access from I-70. Grassy area on west side of park for motorhomes; appeared to be electric on a pole nearby. Toilets, picnic tables, covered areas, playground. Some noise from locals on ATVs, otherwise quiet. No access to water. Restrooms closed during lockdown. May 2020.

It’s a small city park you’re allowed to camp at for free. We stopped here for the night on our way across the country as it’s close to the highway. We arrived after dark and the town felt desolate leaving us a little uncomfortable. However the night was uneventful and in the daylight the neighborhood was quaint. I probably would have felt more comfortable that evening if I had seen it in the daylight before sleeping there. We had found a review on another site from what sounded like cyclists who had camped here before. They said they were comfortable at the site and it was safe. They had written to call the local police department to let them know you’d be sleeping there that night. I did and they were very friendly.
