First the good… this campground is very convenient to anything you’d like to do in Chicago. You can also catch the train in Elgin if you choose not to drive into the city. Most of the staff here is very friendly and helpful. We encountered one employee who was not and unfortunately I did not catch his name as my husband mostly dealt with him. Mike and another gentleman in maintenance were extremely helpful in helping us getting our site changed after we arrived as site number two was not long enough for our 45 foot motorcoach or level at all. The website was not very user friendly for switching sites so they saved the day assisting us. The park and restrooms are very clean and kept up well.
The bad…. Driving around we found most of the sites are not level, the ones in the 50’s - 80’s are better than most. Most sites share water spickets with one other campsite and the water pressure is very low. To add to that, the water (even after our filtration system) has a very oily residue in it.
There is no playground for children. One of the 2 ponds for catch and release is not accessible and the other one, the water is gross and there is a snapping turtle in there that pulled a child in when going after the fish on his pole while we were there.
Overall we would not stay here again.

Sites were very level and most were pretty large. Camp was quiet and very few kids around but all were well behaved. Basic decent bathroom. Access to great crushed gravel trails for hiking and bicycling. Traffic and train noise was not nearly as loud as I expected from reviews I have read. We heard one train come though the entire time. Car noise wasn't bad but noticeable. I would definitely stay again if in the area.

What a great place to stay. We only were passing through and needed one night. It was peaceful, easy to get in. Very clean. . A Couple Weird Rules Such As No Door Mats Over A Certain Size But A Great Stay For Sure!

We recently purchased our travel trailer this year and came back from first big trip to Colorado and Utah and we just couldn’t get enough of trying to use our camper as often as possible. This is a local place for us and so we were pleasantly surprised by the clean, paved, spots. We even had our friends and parents over for a nice visit. *you’re allowed one extra car for visitors*
We spent on and off over a week here. *on and off bc we’re so close to home and down one adult crew member with a lot of kiddos, bc of a broken ankle incurred during our Moab Trip*
But overall we met locals and full timers as we enjoyed our respite and look forward to making our way back with more local travel this year!
We stayed in site 67… one word of caution, our specific site had some very rusty water so either double up the blue water filters or invest in the Clear O2 green filter… that really helped… we initially just I used one blue Camco and that wasn’t helping enough… but we only used the water for washing dishes and hands etc.
They have beautiful trails our kids explored and good fishing as well! And lots of bikes we riding around too!
Would recommend the stay!!! Many people we met have been there multiple times and continue to comeback!

About 1 hour to downtown Chicago so handy for sightseeing.
Nice county park, 90 or so sites. First come first served. Most are back in (easy) 5 or so pull throughs. Asphalt pads with fire rings, and tables. Pads are a little narrow, but the sites are wide so not sitting on top of your neighbor. Mix of shaded and non shaded sites, tall trees, well kept grass. Its mostly acorn trees, thought someone was throwing rocks at my camper! It was just them falling on the roof in the night hah!
Many trails for dog walks (they have horse trails). FYI those with dogs, a CRAP ton of squirrels around so even the most well behaved dog needs to be leashed.
Shared central water connections you will need a 50 ft water hose. Power post at each site 50/30/20.
Friendly staff. Pull in, hand over your drivers lic, they will give you a form to fill out. Go pick your site, set up, come back with the registration paper, no rush take your time. Bring it back to pay and get your ID back.
10 minutes to walmart, 20 minutes to costco.

We love a first-come, first-served campground and this one is clean, well laid out, very green and grassy, and had good trails.
We paid the non-county resident rate of $35/night for an electric/water site. Primitive sites (tent, non-electric) are $18/night for non-county residents. Stay limit is 14 days.
Dump station can be used by non-campers for $15. Firewood is available for sale.
There is not specified check-in time, and checkout time is 2 pm. When we arrived we were invited to go forth and choose our preferred campsite, then come back and pay. The sites are all back-in, but angled for easy access. Some sites are shaded with trees, others are open skies.
30/50A and water with two easily accessible dump stations. There are both flush toilets and vault toilets available.
There is a separate camping area reserved for horses/trailers with tie lines. There is a separate tent camping area (or tents can claim and RV site). The tent camping area is set away from the RV section and more rustic if preferred.
There is an occasional train (very occasional) that runs nearby.
There is a fishing pond and a small climbing wall (child sized), but no playground.
We will come back to this location next time we want to be in the general area. 👍

The sites are decently laid out but not much privacy to speak of. We generally liked it here and would stay again but definitely bring a water purifier as the water has a fair amount of iron in it.

Not a lot I can add here that previous reviews haven't mentioned. They're all spot on. But a few things...
- Spotless bathrooms but like Kane County's Big Rock campground, no garbage cans in the bathroom.
- There is an Equestrian only camping section.
- Fishing pond with a small dock but it's floating, so be cautious. It dips downward closer to the edge. There are probably quite a few cell phones in there from people not expecting the dip.
- There's a big plastic climbing rock for American Ninja Warrior Jr wannabees.
- Two pavilions...one small one in the Equestrian campground and one very large, very nice one near the front gate.
- $35 is too much for non-county residents, at a campground with no showers, for families or seniors on a small fixed income. Just two years ago, it was only $25.
I've added some pictures to the gallery.
