The roads coming in were rough and small but there were alot of large rigs that made it in. Roads in the park are paved/gravel. A lot of traffic around gate closing time. And many ppl driving golfcarts around. It's one big loop so if you're near the exit its busy but not to bad.
Pads are level gravel with a picnic table on a concrete pad and a fire pit, with grill grate.
Gate guy said All sites are full hookup up now. Also the sites are huge with alot of vegetation between so it felt secluded. Some wildlife, we saw a couple armadillo.
Laundry is no longer free! $1.75 a wash.
No doors on showers, just a curtained changing area and a curtain between that and the shower. Shower pressure left alot to be desired but it was free.
no wifi but our mobile data worked well.
Only about 10 minutes to town.
Stars at night were beautiful. We would stay again but probably during the week as rates are lower sunday-thursday.

Cute little library. Awesome bike trails thru the palmettos. We even rented a canoe and paddled with the gators. We might try and come back with the grandkids in the summer to enjoy the splash pad. BTW, the splash pad will activate with motion as I found out while riding my bicycle around it. Loved this place!!!
Roads are pretty rough but we went slow with our 36 foot 5th wheel and managed fine.

Overall, a nice cost effective (running a 62Plus discount) park.
PROs:
* The gravel sites were large and long, fairly level and many of the sites were separated by landscaping. Eight sites with full hookups and others with E and W;
* Never really saw camp hosts and check in person was okay. Not busy during the week and did fill up over the weekend;
* The shower houses were super clear, hot water, FREE Laundry and a super lending/swap libaray;
* Lots of biking and hiking opportunities in this State Park, this was a big plus!
* Wildlife abounds with black bears (didn't see), racoons, armadillos, wild boar;
* Boating ramps, canoes, fishing opportunities, vistor center (not open) and water splash pad;
* Visited Avery Island and the Tabisco tour and manufacturing facility
* Historic old downtown Abbeville was great to explore.
CONs:
* very out of the way State Park, the roads getting to the park were NOT RV friendly so make sure everything is strapped in place.
* The interior roads of the camping loop were the worse ever seen, the pot holes were frequent and large.

Our neighbors were driving around with an amplifier on the back of their golf cart playing zydeco music. We didn't mind it as it was only during the day. The park is way out of the way, and the LA roads are not trailer friendly in many places. We happened to be camping during the monthly Dutch Oven Gathering which happens the 2nd Saturday each month. The Latanier Cookers host a meeting, greeting, cooking and eating event, and campers are invited to come and try the dutch oven cooked food. Much of the food offered was cajun and was an amazing treat to get to try. I would go back for the Dutch Oven Gathering alone.

The Park has many sites but only 8 are full hookups and are reserved a year in advance for those spots on the weekend.. so we had to move out of full hookups over the weekend then back into a site with full hookups after the weekend. Roads getting there are very very bumpy. Make sure your rv is tight and secure.

Note: The states nightly rate of $20 does not include a $6 administrative fees or taxes. Out the door cost was $33 and some change and since I arrived after hours, I didn’t find out until I left the next day. Admittedly it soured my experience a smidge. Still, free laundry!! 😁

The sites are deep and relatively private and well maintained. We did some exploring and saw a gator in the pond at the end of the campground. He was watching some people fishing so he didn’t see us... 😐
There is laundry and clean bathrooms. The sites are gravel but level and nice. Water and electric only with dump station on site. It’s a little off the beaten path but we enjoyed a quiet stay.

This is really a beautiful park with nice trails and lakes, well maintained. However, we planned to stay Thursday through Sunday, but left early. Thursday night was fine, but Friday night was all about parties, neighbors with loud music and talk past midnight. We could tell that Saturday night was going to be even worse, so left early.
I don't mind others having fun, but this was out of control. There seems to be no enforcement of the rules - sites with as many as 5 cars (supposed to be 2 max), loud music and noise way past 10PM, golf carts clogging the roads, etc. I would love to go back, but will never go on a weekend again.
Most of the sites are well spaced with vegetation between, some are more open. Very clean facilities. If they would just enforce the park rules, it could be nice, even on weekends. If you want a peaceful stay, shoot for Sunday-Thursday.
