took a last minute trip to bbnp the weekend of 1/21/2023 and did not find anything at a campground where i wanted, so this is the best thing i found. it is simply a decent size flat pad off a dirt road with a bin. i didn't use or look at the bin - i think it was a bear bin for food, but it might have been a trash bin (not sure). absolutely no facilities, but about a 10 minute drive to panther junction, so not horrible in a bind. very quiet road, but the pad is literally right on the road, so any traffic you'll hear and possibly get dusted. only one camper van passed me about 8am. its pretty quiet and barring horrible timing, plenty private enough. i was camping in my suv and this met my 'needs', even if it didn't meet all my 'wants'. if i can't get into a chisos spot i'd definitely use this or one of the other nearby primitive sites again. the $10 i think was an 'off-season' rate - looks like in season its $12.

“Nice Location In BBNP”

Searching for future camping sites while on a recent hiking trip. We take delivery of an Airstream Basecamp 20X in February 2023. Maybe the best site we explored during our trip. A smaller RV will fit fine but I’m not sure anything more than 20-24’ would be doable. Road to site is easily accessible with any Car, SUV or Truck. Great vie... more

A $12 backcountry permit (good for up to 14 days) is required to stay here. The permits are available at the Panther Junction and Chisos Basin visitor centers and the cost is only $6 with a senior or access pass.
