We stayed here for 4 nights at the end of October, 2023. We reserved online, so there was a fee, however they do honor the senior pass. Price shown is the normal price without reservation fee or discount. You can do the envelope at the pay box and not pay a reservation fee, but sites are not guaranteed. Our site was towards the end and had a decent little path down to the water (which our fishing neighbors used too). Several of the other waterfront sites had paths as well. Site 7 was probably my favorite - enough sun for our solar panels. We did not have enough sun in #15. Loads of grackles in the trees above - fun to watch and loud! Not a lot to do at the campground - there is the trailhead at the entrance and it's a good spot to base from to visit Beaufort. We enjoyed it as it was quiet, we had a nice large site, no one was too close, they did have trash cans, picnic tables - just a nice little dry campground!
PS Yes the road in is single track, but it's graded and graveled nicely.

Access road is now graded and good for all vehicles. Needs reservation 3 days on advance on recreation.gov or show up and pay cash or check for what's available, always ask the kind and knowledgeable host first. Each site is wooded and pretty private, lots of water spigots around

Hundreds of them coming in through our screen windows.
She said as long as it’s windy, they don’t come out, and she was right about that!
We had reservations for five nights and left early after two nights. They were that bad inside out RV, and can’t imagine what it was like outside.
Quiet little campground, with many empty sights during the week. Close to Morehead City and the ocean, but would not stay here again, only due to the bugs.

Nice sites and all clean. All sites quiet and large. It's supposed to have lots of first come, first served, but it's not. Only site #6 is not reserved only. The campsite does not go by the information posted by the National park service, but does it's own thing instead. The road in is very rough with deep and wide potholes. Any rig without good clearance is likely to be damaged. The only rigs I saw were vans, truck campers and tent campers. Go slow and any of those will do fine.

It's got massive amounts of deep potholes that will pretty much swallow your truck. :) But take it slow and since it's not very far, it's totally doable. They do have pit toilet bathrooms here, but we didn't use them, and due to covid, there are some porta-pottys set up. We have our own facilities so we didn't check those out. Also, trash is available here. The camp hosts are very nice and keep things very clean. We felt very safe leaving our RV for the day to run errands. For solar, I would say site #7 was the best, but you still have quite a bit of shade from trees depending on the season you're here. There is also fresh water available here for filling your tanks if need be.

I really enjoyed my time here. You can fill your fresh tank with water and after that you’re on your own. Each site has a picnic table and fire pit. If you have a rod and a kayak, you are set. We went hiking on one of the nature trails and enjoyed the peace and quiet.
