I stopped here a year ago, and only realized it when I got here. This time all sites were FCFS... but there was only 1 other RV. First night I picked site 1; it had electrical. Second night I moved up the hill to site C, no electrical; but a nice flat concrete slab and covered picnic table (which didn't matter, it's winter!); I moved because I wanted a view and can see far off a snow capped mountain. It's very windy at this site. The main bath house at the visitors center is the only one open, but just a short 3 minute walk. Clean, showers warm enough. I did a short hike from here.... at this time of year, there's like NO ONE else here.. yesterday maybe 3 other RV's, tonight, I think only one other. Good Verizon.. ZERO AT&T (I have both)

Stayed two nights in early Oct. Only a couple sections were open. A few campers. Sunday night most of the electric sites were taken. One water spigot available. Pit toilets only and they smelled so bad from just walking by...I can't imagine what being inside would be like. So, three stars for cleanliness. Shower houses were closed for the season.
Great area to walk around, a really beautiful hike along Bluewater Creek. The map provided didn't really have any good detail about the trails.
Bluewater Lake seems to be disappearing.

We were booked for 2 nights in spot 25, a pull-through spot, but we didn't stay. First, we took exit 63 of I-40 and followed the 6 mile road the the park. BE WARNED - the road has some tight curves on steep grades so it's a little nerve-wracking if you're driving a bigger rig. Second, upon arriving at the park there is a lack of signage to indicate how to get to camp spots. There is a map, yes, but even with that its very hard to know how to find your spot. We had to turn around twice, which is never fun with a 35 foot fifth wheel. Finally found our spot and pulled in. As other reviewers have stated, our site was very unlevel. Plus the orientation was wrong. The road was one way, so our door would have literally opened into the street. The view on the other side was great and we *might* have stayed had we been allowed to pull in the other way. Disappointing. Strong Verizon coverage. No T-Mobile coverage.

This state park is pretty nice and could be quite nice if they did some maintenance. Our site was a first come/first serve site with a view of the lake. It was plenty of room for our truck and 20 ft TT. There is water available and a dump station so for the price of $10 it is worth it for sure. Just kind of run down and that’s sad to see.

Site C was available for one nite and so we ended up paying for another night, since there is no camphost and no ranger that could help us switch our res. Nevertheless, we very much enjoyed our stay, the campground is clean, the lake beautiful, and there are great hiking trails. For those who are looking to boondocking, the lakeshore offers a variety of hard packed sand sites right by the water.

We stayed here on our way to and from Arizona, since it was almost exactly halfway. The first night we stayed in site 15 and it was the most unlevel site in a developed campground that we have ever stayed it. It was borderline unsafe. The second night wasin site 13, it wasn't as bad as 15, but still pretty bad. Whoever designed this campground didn't know anything about RVs. Besides being unlevel, they are oriented wrong. Picnic tables and fire pits should be on the passenger side of the trailer and electricity should be on the driver side.

The park is about 7 miles from I-40. We arrived at 4pm, dumped our tanks, filled a water jug and saw everything was reservation only. After fussing with reserveamerica's website finally got a reservation in the lakeside loop. The reservation email assigned us to a loop but not a specific site. We assumed (wrongly) that meant just pick an open site in the loop. There were a lot of open sites.
At about 7pm a park ranger came by the site saying we were in the wrong site. When I showed him the email with no site specified, only a loop, he didn't want to hear it even after I told him we could move if necessary but would rather not. He took no ownership of reservation system issues but rather lectured me on why didn't I call reverveamerica and sort this out (I did later and they were closed), all while displaying his authority verbally and with tools of his trade (gun, mace, uniform, kevlar vest).
I'm on vacation to have fun, not to be hassled by an authority figure unwilling to accept the failings of their organization and try to fix them. A little customer service would have gone a long way but that was not on this ranger's mind. The next time I pass thru this part of New Mexico I'll vote with my feet, and dollars, by staying elsewhere.

Called in to reserve campsite. I asked if showers were open. She said it didn't say they were closed, so they must be. When I asked to confirm, she said yes. Only a few campsites were available as opposed to the many that showed online. (We found out some whole loops were closed.) Decided on 100 foot long site with electric. When we got there we found out it was ADA. We also found out there wasn't any water. All spigots were padlocked. Shower building was locked. I would have rather parked in a rest area. Well, we tried to make best of it and set up. Was close to vault toilet. Went to hike trails. Canyon view trail was just wide open area with no real path. No markings. Went to edge of cliff and had good view. Could not tell where path went on, so turned around and went back. Went to dam view trail. This was a defined path. Did come to a good view over the dam and lake. Lots of old tin cans and broken glass. Then as the trail continued around the hillside it became a very narrow, rough path perched along the cliff side. About an 80 foot drop. Decided that it might be wiser to go back even though we were about 3/4 of the way. Then we decided it would be shorter to go over the top of the hill. That was best decision of the trail. When we came to the top there was a bald eagle sitting in a low tree about 30 yards away. We just stood there amazed for about ten minutes. But, having been lied to I would have liked my money back.
