Wonderful location and beautiful view, but shortcomings of the campground tend to overshadow the experience. For being a military CG I expect better maintenance. Wonderful location and beautiful view, but shortcomings of the campground tend to overshadow the experience. For being a military CG I expect better maintenance. The driveway was potholed and not graded well, drainage was a problem after rain. Grass was not mowed. Most military CG's are not designed to be all-inclusive but some do out shine others. This is not one of them. The sites only have electrical, but to fill your tank is only one water hose at the bathhouse designed for the beach. You will partially block the road while filling up. The dump station is further away down by the Marina & MWR office and it also has potential to block parking and the road. The only good showers are available at the MWR office but are only open during certain days & hours. The other showers are at the beach but are designed for the beach with only one shower per sex. The campground offers one pit toilet for each. Of course the NEX & Commissary offer the best provisioning. This may be a good place to do an overnight only, not very beneficial if planning a long term. Due to security concerns RTC is closed to visitors and NTC has some limitations. Watch for one-way streets on NTC getting down to the campground.

... but the permanent resident on one side of us made the campground not worth going back to. Well. Maybe. We would give it a second chance if we were on the opposite side and still facing the lake. The views were amazing. I can imagine it is difficult to get reservations in the spring and summer since you are literally right on the shoreline.
Roads on base were a little nerve racking. Narrow and tight turns. Lots of Sailors just walking without looking.

Overall Rating
Cool little campground. Great views right on the water. Water and dump station available. 50/30 amp service available. Half the sights face Lace Michigan and are a stones throw from the water. Great places to walk for you and your pets right along the water.
