We stopped here randomly for one night in mid March to break up a long drive. The ranger had left already but there was a very friendly man in the golf shop who said he wasn’t technically the person who dealt with reservations but could charge us the off season rate of $16/night. I think he could sense that we were desperate for a place to sleep and we really appreciated his help. The park was small but fine. As another poster mentioned, some hookups are placed in odd spots, like really far from the nearest campsite. Not all sites are level, maybe half were good. When we arrived there was barely anyone else around so we had our pick. The bathrooms were clean, shower was warm. I felt very grateful to get all the amentities for such a good price, but it was off season so I know the price is usually higher. It’s a good location if you’re doing the Bourbon Trail, very close to several Distilleries.

We stayed at this campground from Nov 3rd - 6th 2018 because of it's convenient location to most of the bourbon distilleries. Yes most of the sites are not level and you'll be challenged in your leveling abilities. Yes some of the electric and water connections are in odd locations. So make sure you have extra electric cord and water hose. But if you've camped more than once then you should have those items anyway. We did not use the restrooms or showers so I can't comment on them. All though we did notice staff cleaning them on a daily basis. Site 22 was semi level and only 10' from electric and water connections. We will definitely stay here again.

The restrooms and showers we well kept.

It is a very small campground right off the golf course. Site 16 backs up to the golf course, it is a short pad. We have a 16’ rig so we can get pretty much anywhere but it is tight. The master class As did it though as did some big trailers. The electric and water are spaced evenly between sites so you need extra long hoses and cords. Our site did have sewer but only 5 do. There is a bath house it was fine, older but clean. The grounds are very clean. There is some run off in areas but our site was fine. We had a couple of good rains while here. We liked it for its location to the distilleries and historical sites.
Bardstown is a quaint little town.

Wow, almost none of the pads here are level. I don't think I've seen a camground as far off level as I have seen here. We're staying here for 6 nights and the campground is your typical state park. It's very small and some spots are difficult to get into. Our 30' airstream couldn't fit into the original spot we booked but luckily, spot 32 was available for the entire 6 nights we are here so we were able to switch.
I can't speak about the distilleries yet as we just got here but plan on taking full advantage of the bourbon tastings nearby. One distillery, Heaven Hill, is within walking distance and Willett distillery is less than 2 miles away.
Good signal without a booster for Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T.
I would only camp here again if we got a level spot....not too many of those around here. On reserve america, avoid the sites where driveway grade says SEVERE. I wasn't sure what that meant until we got here. Luckily we had enough leveling blocks.

PROS
- Location. Bardstown is a really fun little town and of course, the bourbon capital of the world. We aren't big bourbon drinkers but like the experience, so we toured Barton 1792 Distillery - only a couple of miles from the campsite and completely free tour and tasting. Highly recommended. Heaven Hill is within walking distance to the campground.
- The golf course. We don't golf, but when the golf course closed for the evening, we took full advantage and walked the course with our dog almost every night amongst the fireflies. I've read in previous reviews that this is discouraged, but we ran into an attendant once and he offered us some water before driving away on his golf cart. Obviously, don't use it as walking trails when there are people out there playing golf. But after hours, keep to yourself out there and enjoy the nice walking paths.
- Bathrooms were clean and the showers were good.
- Price. For water and electric in a cool town, the weekly rate we thought was fair and ~$10/night cheaper than surrounding campgrounds.
- Cell phone reception. We have Verizon and AT&T and both were super fast and reliable for our entire stay - we did skype video calls and streamed video without a problem.
- Hour away from Louisville, hour away from Lexington, so good position for daytrips to either city.
-The nicest dog park I've ever seen is across the street. It requires a permit to use - they require vaccination records for the dog and then you can buy passes to use the park. This translates to a immaculately-kept dog park with conscientious owners.
CONS
- The campground is really small. We were here for a rally though, so the small campground size made it really nice for popping around to the campsites of others and socializing. 37 or 38 total sites, I think, but they are packed in.
- The water and electric proximity to the campsite. We were ready for this and had an extension cord and a second water hose, but yeah. You'll need both.
- The staff were a bit unattentive. We weren't given any paperwork or told any details upon arrival - nothing about check-in/check out times, no badge for the truck to designate our reservation dates, nada - whereas other campers got this information.
- I don't know who was in charge of paving this campground, but that person needs to rethink their career. Some sites really required some gymnastics to get the camper (big or small!) level, both left to right and front to back. We had a GREAT site (19) that did not require leveling gymnastics. My recommendation is to book a site on the outer circle of the campground - those sites were relatively larger and more level than the ones on the inner circle. Sites 27 and 29 are especially terrible.
Overall, we would definitely come back here again, armed with our extension cord and second hose, as there was an abundance of things to do in the area that we really enjoyed and the price of this campground made it worth the few hassles.
Oh! And Boone's Butcher Shop is a must if you need to buy meat. Excellent prices and they have just about everything.

This place was far from awful but it also definitely didn't leave us feeling like we wanted to come back. On the positive side it was an excellent location for visiting distilleries. Willett, Barton 1792, Makers, Heaven Hill, Jim Beam and Four Roses are all close by. It was heavily treed which made for nice shade on hot days. It was relatively quiet especially at night. There were lots of birds singing in the morning. Despite the small loop for walking the dog there was a second day use loop across the street which we would use for off leash walks during the times that it was closed off to traffic. There was also a large open tent area for walking around in, better walking than I expected given the small CG size.
On the negative side most sites were off level and required a bit of work to get in to. The utilities were strangely placed and required extension cords and extra hoses to reach. The showers were hot and were cleaned daily but were old, run down and not the most pleasant place to be.
Verizon service was 4G and was fast enough for all but video calls but was also a bit flakey and tended to come to a crawl at times. AT&T was better, suitable for video.
If I were doing it all over again I would still like the convenience of the location but would consider one of the local RV parks first.

Our site at My Old Kentucky Home State Park was pretty level compared to many of our neighbors. Some neighboring motorhomes had to raise their jacks so high that their wheels were off the ground.
The water and power for our site was about 30 feet away, so we had to add an extension to both in order to reach it. The power pole is shared with the neighboring site and regularly the fuse popped when both sites were drawing a lot of power. On our last night, we got new neighbors and when they plugged it somehow burned out leaving everyone without power.
Over the weekend, a big group came in for a golf tournament called "The Bourbon Open." These campers brought a karaoke system and played it at a volume that was really inconsiderate of the other campers and management didn't seem to care. Quiet hours start at 11pm on, fortunately this group quieted down by then.
Overall it's a fine place to stay, you just need to come with an extra long power cable, an extra long hose, some extra leveling blocks and some patience.
