We have a site reserved for this weekend 4/26-28. Can we fill our fresh water tank at the campground?

Do you have to reserve a spot in advance or can you drive through and pick a spot?

The park is wonderful. The overlooks on the Palisades offer a wonderful view of the Mississippi river. The campground amenities were very good. Of course the sites are electric only so you will need to fill your fresh water tank before parking on your site. The dump stations were as clean as a dump station can be. The only place to get potable water was at the dump station, however the potable water spigot is a distance away from the actual sewer and on the other side of the dump station road if that makes sense. There are a number of restrooms spread around the campground and the showerhouse I used was clean and tidy. I wish the shower water ran longer each time I pressed the button, but hey, I can press it as often as I needed to get the job done, My wife and I enjoyed our stay there and would return if needed. However, if we return to the area we would probably try to stay at a park such as South Sabula Lake Park about 6 miles to the southwest just across the Mississippi river into Iowa. That park is right in the middle (on a peninsula) of the river and most of the sites are on the riverfront. That park also features a shower house in the same basic condition as the state park (I checked it out,,,) and also has wireless internet available. Of course, South Sabula Lake Park appeared to be full or almost full where the state park was nowhere near capacity. I wish we had known about South Sabula Lake Park before I booked our reservations into Mississippi Palisades, but hey, for $20 a night, Mississippi Palisades State Park is a good deal. Just remember to use the north entrance to the park to get to the campground--entering in the south entrance will cause you to test your tow vehicle's climb and descend capabilities under your camper load!

This is a nice campground. Surprisingly it was only half full. However, I think the fact that there is zero cell service may play a factor. We have a toy hauler and brought the Harley along for a riding weekend. It was a great place to have a home base to sleep and eat but I wouldn't camp there if I was planning on spending a lot of time. I do not like not having cell service as I have elderly parents with health issues, and I especially do not like that my NOAA Weather Radio did not have service either. This campground is on the Mississippi River and is prone to bad weather. I like to know what is coming before it hits us. So, we will not camp here again.
It was a little noisy on Sunday night. A big group of people pulled in with tents. They had their radio cranked and some bass was booming. We were sitting by our fire and had a hard time hearing each other. However, i think the camp staff may have squashed the noise after a while.

It is a great park with nice sites. Most sites are separated well. Great hiking trails. Cell phone access for Verizon was virtually non-existant and local TV was barely obtained on one channel.

Many of the sites are reserved in advance for weekends/holidays so beware if you’re arriving at a popular time. Showers aren’t much to write home about — I was better off using the one in my RV. If you need consistent cell reception, you’ll need to grab a site at or walk to the area near the entrance of the park.
Peaceful atmosphere and right on the Mississippi!
