If you are looking for a small self contained lake (no fishing license required), miles of well maintained trails, RV sites, flush toilets, screened shelters, cabins, tent sites, wildlife and more this park maybe for you. If you are looking for a small self contained lake (no fishing license required), miles of well maintained trails, RV sites, flush toilets, screened shelters, cabins, tent sites, wildlife and more this park maybe for you. You will not find a super store near by, but you will also NOT have tons of traffic noise.
If you plan to be here over a weekend or holiday reserve early. It's about an hour & 1/2 South of Fort Worth, Arlington area and about an hour & 1/2 West / North of Waco... close enough it gets lots of weekend traffic.
We have stayed at this park many times and always leave wanting more. Check out out video for more info

With about 24 campsites of various kinds (14 RV sites), the campground is a bit on the small side. It does make for some nice camping though. With about 24 campsites of various kinds (14 RV sites), the campground is a bit on the small side. It does make for some nice camping though. The park is set around Lake Meridian which offers swimming and fishing. The paved roads that surround the lake are good for biking. Also, quite a few hiking trails.
The campsites are set up well with picnic tables, fire pits, charcoal grills, etc.

We arrived about 2:30 Sunday afternoon. Check in was relatively quick and friendly. Site 4 (a pull-through with full hookups) backs up to a wooded area, and the useable area is a bit small, as the fire ring is pretty close to the picnic table pad, and the ground cover and exposed rocks sort of dictates where you might want to set up c... more
We arrived about 2:30 Sunday afternoon. Check in was relatively quick and friendly. Site 4 (a pull-through with full hookups) backs up to a wooded area, and the useable area is a bit small, as the fire ring is pretty close to the picnic table pad, and the ground cover and exposed rocks sort of dictates where you might want to set up chairs. It was just the two of us and our 90 pound dog, so it was fine for us. There were plenty of trees, so we were able to hang our camping hammock, and we had plenty of shade later in the day. However, in the morning and middle of the day, there is no shade over the RV space. The sites are all relatively close to one another, but they're all pull-throughs, so you're not really next to anyone - you're head-to-toe with enough space and trees to not really notice your neighbors. Bathrooms were clean. We didn't utilize the showers.
Being mid-June in Texas, it was hot. (Feels like temp of 101 on Sunday and 106 on Monday.) But there was a constant lovely breeze that made it almost pleasant in the shade, other than at that hottest part of the day. We ventured a short hike to the lake and around on the Bosque Trail a bit (around 6:30, and that breeze was still very helpful), where we saw the boat ramp, swimming area, and kayak rental, though we didn't use any of those. We also noted that they will lend fishing tackle.
Monday morning, anticipating another scorcher, we used the cooler morning temps and hiked the short, Little Springs Trail. It was lovely , completely shaded, full of interesting topography, and as the name implies, springs! There is a little elevation change: we went counter-clockwise, which resulted in a gradual downward slope, ending with a relatively steep climb back up, but nothing too bad. We stayed inside the A/C of the trailer the remainder of the day. That evening, we took a shortcut to the lake by using a runoff area behind the nearby screened-in shelters and walked a small portion of the Bosque Trail in the other direction. Have I mentioned that breeze??
A cool front came through Monday night and made Tuesday morning perfect. We hiked the entire Bosque Trail. It has some pretty significant steep areas, and we got more of a workout than we anticipated! But stones have been arranged (or out-and -out stairs have been laid) to provide good footholds. As long as you can climb stairs with pretty tall risers, you're good.
While we didn't, we saw plenty of others taking advantage of the swimming, kayaking, and fishing.
We would definitely recommend this park.

We got here today and I usually wait a bit to write reviews but this cute little park is a hidden gem. We checked in so easily, the staff gave us a ton of info and advice about the area. We got here today and I usually wait a bit to write reviews but this cute little park is a hidden gem. We checked in so easily, the staff gave us a ton of info and advice about the area. The bluebonnets are just starting to bloom (my first real spring in Texas so I'm excited about them). We would definitely come back here again. When we arrived the ranger informed my boyfriend someone had mentioned our site wanting to book it not knowing we were coming in and had serious site envy that it was booked up.
We had great wifi service on our Verizon Mifi hotspot and enough tv channels for that late night relaxation time.

My family and I brought our camper for a 2-night stay. We didn't know what to expect of the part, but since it was a short trip, figured we couldn't get too bored! The park was well kept, the cabins & screen shelters all looked pretty new! We stayed in our camper at site #4, we could see our neighbors and were not far off the central road, but it still felt like there was enough space between us and our adjacent spots that we could be alone without feeling like we were being watched. We hiked one of the trails that led to a large limestone overhang, which our kids enjoyed a lot. We also rented a canoe for $10 and our kids spent a good amount of time swimming in the lake. This park was a win for our family and we'd come back again, hopefully this time with friends! Again, the park is small, but if you're just looking to spend time with your family it's a perfect spot. A s'more is a s'more no matter where you are!

Make sure to call ahead to get gate code if you’re going to be late or get here before 10 pm as the gate closes at that time. It is a wonderful little park with a beautiful lake and a few great trails. It is clean and has good amenities including full hookups in sites 1-8. We stayed in site 6 and it was a good campsite. Birding is very good here and it is a very quiet place. $25 dollars + entrance fee per person per day is the rate for the full hookups and if you have a park pass ($70/year valid at all state parks) they waive the entrance fees for all the people in the same vehicle.
