This is a VERY popular site for off roaders and is the site for The King of the Hammers event. (I must say, this is an amazingly crazy event that we did enjoy. Lots to see on you tube!)
We have camped here on 3 occasions: during The King of the Hammers (CRAZY BUSY), Thanksgiving (CRAZY busy) and then this past weekend (busy). If you are not into off roading, this is not the place for you, except for perhaps midweek. We have always extended our stay into a midweek stay, most of the crazy goes away but not all of it. Don't go there thinking it's pretty, it's not.
The turnoff from the highway is clearly marked and the road in isn't too bad. It is about 2.5 miles to the main camping area, although you can camp anywhere. Usually groups of RVers/off roaders camp here. You can also camp out on the lake bed. Be mindful of nails when nearing fire pit areas. It can get windy out there and there is a lot of dust. No outhouses or trash collection provided. I spend time picking up trash, there is a lot if you look closely.
People go here to ride their off OHVs. There are miles and miles of "roads/trails" and open riding areas with varied terrain. Experienced (and unexperienced) drivers try to take their vehicles up boulder canyons, which is fun to watch.
FourFeetFourPaws would stay here again
